Sustainable Santa Clara: Celebrate Earth Month
The City is committed to helping create a Sustainable Santa Clara. Over the past two years this has included adding Sustainability as one of the City Council’s seven priority pillars, developing a Citywide Sustainability Program that takes a holistic and collaborative approach to conservation and climate action, and launching a comprehensive update to the Climate Action Plan. Santa Clara residents are committed, too! More residents are driving electric vehicles, conserving energy and water, and being thoughtful about reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting. With Earth Day right around the corner on April 22, let’s take the opportunity to celebrate both our Earth and our community’s commitment to protecting it! While we can’t come together to celebrate in person this year, the City has set up a variety of events, workshops, children’s activities, and ways to take action to celebrate our earth all month long. Find out how you can join in at: SantaClaraCA.gov/EarthMonth.

Be a Conservation Hero with These Helpful Tips |
|
Conserve Water
Together, we can stretch our limited water supplies – conserve today and save for tomorrow.
Get that leaky faucet, shower head, or toilet fixed. Household leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year.
Always use a shutoff hose nozzle, free at City Hall, when watering and only water between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. to reduce evaporation.
Sweep don’t spray! Use a broom to keep your outdoor spaces clean.
Find new ways to conserve indoor and outdoor water with these water saving tips and resources.

Save Your Sewer
Know what to flush! Did you know “flushable” wipes are not actually flushable and can cause blockages and sewer overflows?
|
Prevent sewer overflows at home or out in the environment - only flush toilet paper.

#KeepSCClean Waste Not, Want Not - Reduce and Reuse
Reuse and repair what you can to save landfill space.
Avoid single-use items, especially plastic, and always use a reusable water bottle.
|
Switch from paper bills to e-bills or online invoices. Making the switch can help reduce unwanted clutter and paper waste.
