Joint Message from Police Chief Cregan and Fire Chief Westrope Ahead of July 4th Celebrations
As we approach the Fourth of July, we ask our Santa Rosa community to celebrate responsibly and make safety the top priority. With dry conditions, warm temperatures, and increasing fire risk across our region, fireworks pose a serious danger. While they may be a long-standing tradition, it is important to remember that all fireworks are illegal in Santa Rosa and surrounding unincorporated areas.
We strongly urge everyone to choose safe alternatives this year. If you currently have fireworks, please do not use them. Dispose of them safely or turn them in at a local fire or police station.
Both Santa Rosa Police and Fire personnel will be actively patrolling throughout the holiday. Violations of the fireworks ban may result in citations, fines, or arrest. Our goal is not just enforcement; it is prevention. We want everyone to enjoy a safe and incident-free holiday. Each year, fireworks are responsible for thousands of fires nationwide. Given the current local conditions, even a single firework can have devastating consequences for homes, neighborhoods, and open spaces.
Santa Rosa has shown incredible resilience in the face of past wildfires. Protecting our community is a shared responsibility, and your choices matter. We encourage you to celebrate in ways that keep your family, neighbors, and community safe.
Have a safe and happy Fourth of July, Chief Scott Westrope & Chief John Cregan
