Wildfire Season Declared on June 1

The Santa Rosa Fire Department officially declared Monday, June 1, 2026, as the start of this year’s wildfire season in Santa Rosa. This declaration is necessary to help ensure the community is better prepared for this wildfire season. “Despite late season rains, we’ve already seen our seasonal grasses turn to a golden brown across Santa Rosa. Just last month, a fire in Fountaingrove burned over two acres just days after we received nearly 2.5 inches of rain. This week we received another quarter to half inch of rain locally, but the warm and dry weather forecasted for this weekend will continue to dry the vegetation and grass out,” said Fire Chief Scott Westrope.
