Message from the City Manager

City Manager's Project Update Header_Name Byline_ENG

As we head into the holiday season, I want to take a moment to share my gratitude for our incredible Santa Rosa community and the dedicated employees who keep our city thriving. From nonprofits spreading hope, to local businesses that fuel our economy, to volunteers and community members who show up and make a difference. Santa Rosa is strong because of your hard work, creativity, and care for our city.

While some of us will enjoy time off for Thanksgiving, many of our 1,300+ City employees will be working to keep Santa Rosa safe and running smoothly. I’m deeply thankful for their dedication—not just during the holidays, but all year long.

Join us for the 42nd Annual Winter Lights Festival and Tree Lighting Celebration in Old Courthouse Square on Friday, Nov. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. It’s a great way to kick off the holidays with family and friends.

And if you’d like to give back, consider participating in our holiday food drive. You can drop off donations at several public counters, including the City Manager’s Office and the Finley Center, through December 18. Your donations will help local families in need and spread holiday cheer.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful Thanksgiving,
Maraskeshia Smith, City Manager

Remote Building Inspections: A Convenient Option to Keep Projects Moving

Remote Building Inspections_320x370

Remote Building Inspections (RBIs) give residents and contractors a convenient way to complete projects without unnecessary delays. Using video conferencing tools or photographs, the City’s Building Inspectors guide onsite contacts step by step, covering everything from small additions to remodels and utility connections. The Building Inspector will determine whether an RBI is appropriate, not the person requesting the inspection. This process saves time, reduces travel, and often speeds approvals. Results are typically emailed the same day, helping projects stay on schedule. RBIs follow the same standards as in-person inspections, ensuring accuracy and compliance. This safe, efficient option helps homeowners, builders, and businesses move work forward quickly.
