Park Projects Starting Soon
Across Santa Rosa

City Manager's Project Update Header_Name Byline_ENG

Hello Santa Rosa,

Good news! We are thrilled to announce upcoming enhancements to four of our cherished City parks. These projects will be realized through a collaborative effort with the County of Sonoma Measure M funds and park development impact fees. Utilizing park development impact fees from new developments and the one-eighth cent sales tax approved by Sonoma County voters in 2019, these upgrades promise to enhance the beauty and functionality of our parks. Importantly, these improvements will be realized without affecting the City’s General Fund, ensuring that our regular budget remains intact. Here’s what’s coming:

South Davis Neighborhood Park – Replace playground equipment, upgrade to ADA accessible pathways, install a new sign, and upgrade sidewalks, lighting, and fencing. The project will start in October and cost approximately $1.7 million.

Kawana Springs Community Park – Build an ADA accessible community garden, which includes parking, pathways, raised garden beds, picnic tables, a restroom, and storage sheds. This project should start in May 2026 and cost approximately $1.7 million.

Howarth Memorial and Galvin Community Parks Improve and build sport courts in both parks. Howarth Park will have four tennis courts and six pickleball courts, and Galvin Park will expand to 10 tennis courts and 12 pickleball courts. This project will cost approximately $6 million. Construction will start in Howarth Park in spring 2026.

I extend my gratitude to the County for their ongoing partnership in allocating Measure M funds. Together, with the support of the voters who made this possible, we’re enhancing the beauty, accessibility, and enjoyment of our parks for all.

— City Manager Maraskeshia Smith

Labor Day BBQ and Grilling Safety

BBQ Safety_320x370

With Labor Day weekend quickly approaching, keep safety top of mind to ensure a fun and accident-free celebration as you fire up the grill. Always grill outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from structures and flammable materials. Keep children and pets at least three feet from the grill. Use long-handled tools to avoid burns and never leave the grill unattended. Check propane tanks and hoses for leaks before use. A safe BBQ is a happy BBQ—let’s make this Labor Day memorable for all the right reasons!
