City Manager’s Project Update: Strengthening the City’s Essential Infrastructure
A key milestone in the Los Alamos Trunk Sewer Replacement Project Segment 1 – from Streamside Drive to Elaine Drive – is nearing completion, marking a significant advancement in enhancing the city's wastewater infrastructure. The project replaces outdated sewer lines from the 1950s with a modern 24-inch trunk sewer, improving system capacity and reliability. Spanning over 5,300 feet across several streets, the upgraded pipeline will meet the needs of both current and future residents, in line with the City's General Plan 2035, which anticipates substantial growth. This upgrade also improves maintenance access, reduces the risk of leaks and blockages, and strengthens system resilience. The successful completion of this segment paves the way for future infrastructure improvements that will support Santa Rosa’s growth and ensure reliable wastewater services for years to come.

New CAL FIRE Fire Hazard Severity Maps: What Santa Rosa Residents Need to Know
On Feb. 24, 2025, CAL FIRE released the 2025 Local Responsibility Area (LRA) Fire Hazard Severity Maps. CAL FIRE, in coordination with the Office of the State Fire Marshal, is required to periodically update these maps and severity zones. CAL FIRE is required to notify local governments before releasing updated severity zone maps for both the State Responsibility Areas (SRA) and LRA. Local governments are required to adopt, by ordinance, updated Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ) in our jurisdiction within 120 days of being published. Once these maps are formally adopted, which we anticipate will be completed sometime in early May, we plan to have a process with both internal and external stakeholders, including community members, on potential changes that could be proposed to our existing Wildland Urban Interface Area.
