Heavy Rain, Flood Watch and Wind Advisory for Santa Rosa
The City of Santa Rosa is urging residents to take immediate precautions as a significant atmospheric river is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the region this week. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for the area, predicting substantial rain starting Tuesday evening, Nov. 19, and continuing through the weekend.
Up to 4-6 inches of rain could fall through Thursday, with an additional 2-3 inches possible from Friday to Saturday. Residents should be prepared for rapid rises in local creeks, streams, and rivers, along with potential street ponding and urban flooding.
A Wind Advisory has also been issued for portions of the Bay Area, including all of the North Bay, from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, through 6 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. Wind gusts remain at 30-35 in Santa Rosa.
Rain Safety and Preparedness Tips
As the atmospheric river approaches, residents should:
- Allow extra travel time and use caution as roadways will be slick.
- Rises in creeks, streams, and rivers may cause minor to moderate urban and small stream flooding.
- Prepare for rainfall by clearing gutter debris and clearing storm drains on private property.
- Secure loose outdoor objects, keep cell phones charged, and prepare for possible power outages.
