City Manager’s Message: Halloween Fun Culminates Tonight, Enjoy Safely
It’s been a fun-filled time celebrating Halloween in Santa Rosa and now the big night is here! Over the past few weeks, we've had fun hosting Halloween events enjoyed by more than 3,700 participants and handing out more than 800 bags of candy and special treat bags. We saw some spectacular costumes and even brighter smiles. Thank you to the participants, City staff, and community groups who made these events successful, including Halloween at Howarth Park, the Floating Pumpkin Patch at Ridgway Swim Center, the Halloween Bash at Finley Community Park, SRPD’s Trunk-or-Treat, and the Pumpkin Hunt in our City parks. It has been a privilege and a ghoulishly good time, and tonight we wish you all a happy and safe Halloween. READ MORE & SEE THE PHOTOS
Tips for a Street-Smart and Fire-Safe Halloween
Halloween is an exciting time for the whole family, but it is essential to remember the tricks and treats of being street-smart and fire safe. When selecting costumes, ensure they fit properly to avoid trips and falls, and provide glow sticks or flashlights to help kids see and be seen. Decorations can be highly flammable, so keep them away from open flames and heat sources, including light bulbs and heaters. With trick-or-treaters about, drivers need to slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions when walking or driving. Fall Is the Perfect Time to Build a WaterSmart Yard
With the rainy season ahead and your vegetable garden and other annual plants winding down, fall is the perfect time for planning and planting a WaterSmart yard. This fall, build your own rain garden or swale to save rainwater in your yard, and plant native, low-water-use, climate-resilient plants that will reduce your water usage while keeping your space beautiful. Use the Sonoma-Marin Water Saving Partnership WaterSmart Plant Picker to discover your new favorite plants. Additionally, check out Santa Rosa Water’s many resources and rebates. The Cash for Grass rebate is helpful for transforming your lawn into a low-water-use landscape, and the Rainwater Harvesting System rebate is beneficial for storing rainwater to be used in the summer.
