City Launches New Weather Station Webpage to Track Microclimate Data and Enhance Fire Preparedness
Localized weather data designed to enhance awareness and preparedness during critical fire weather and other extreme weather events is now available to residents. The City’s newly launched weather webpage offers real-time insights on conditions across Santa Rosa’s diverse microclimates in different areas of the city. The webpage collects information from nine permanent weather stations installed on City property, tracking critical data such as temperature, wind speed and direction, humidity, and fuel moisture. Fire officials have historically used this data for fire response and planning, and it is now available to the community so residents can stay informed, especially during heatwaves or high wind events. HAWK Signals are Pedestrian Activated
Santa Rosa uses High-Intensity Activated CrossWalK (HAWK) signals to improve pedestrian safety in areas where crossing is challenging, such as mid-block crosswalks, or where traffic gaps and speed limits make crossing difficult. Unlike conventional traffic signals, HAWK signals are activated only when a pedestrian presses the crossing button. The signal then follows a sequence of flashing yellow, yellow, red, and flashing red lights to alert drivers to the presence of a pedestrian. When the signal turns solid red, vehicles must stop for pedestrians. During flashing red, vehicles must first stop but may proceed with caution if the crosswalk is clear. When not in use, the HAWK signal remains dark, allowing normal traffic flow. Currently, there are three HAWK signals within Santa Rosa city limits. LEARN MORE
