Did You Know?
Your Water from Source to Tap
We all know water is a precious resource, but how well do you know the water that comes through your tap? Our shared public water system is intricate, but there are also some basics that we’d like to introduce you to. Do you know where your water comes from? About 95% of our water, purchased from Sonoma Water, comes from the Russian River. We also use our own groundwater wells to help meet demand, especially during hot, dry summer months. How does this water get to your home? The purchased water from the Russian River is delivered via an underground aqueduct (large diameter pipe) that connects into our City water system. The Santa Rosa Water team is responsible for maintaining more than 53,000 water meters, 6,300 fire hydrants, 600 miles of water pipe, 22 water reservoirs (tanks), and 20 pump stations to deliver safe, clean drinking water to customers.
