City Manager's Project Update: Finley Aquatic Center to Reopen in June for Swimming and Water Exercise Programs
The major renovation and improvement project at Finley Aquatic Center is moving swiftly now that rains have subsided. Work on the two pools and surrounding pool decks is a high priority to ensure the facility is ready to welcome residents for summer programs. The Recreation & Parks Department plans to reopen the center on June 17 for swim lessons, lap swimming, water fitness classes, recreational swimming, and additional aquatics programs. The new spray ground and splash pad, picnic areas, and other exciting added features are scheduled to be completed and opened to the community later this summer. LEARN MORE
Annual Slurry Seal Program Implements Local Road Safety Plan
The City maintains a 512-mile street system with roadways of various sizes and conditions. Each year, approximately 2.5 million square feet of City streets in relatively good condition are selected to receive slurry seal treatment as part of the Annual Pavement Preventive Maintenance program. This year, several streets with high traffic volumes have been selected to receive the slurry seal treatment within the Downtown core. Once the pavement treatment is applied, all treated streets will be restriped; however, portions of these streets, such as Mendocino Avenue, Montgomery Drive, and College Avenue, will receive modified restriping to improve the travel experience for all uses as designed in the Local Road Safety Plan. View the daily maps schedule to learn where and when the slurry seal treatment will be applied. READ MORE
Congratulations to Our 2024 Water-Use Efficiency Winners!
This year's Water-Use Efficiency Awards winners – Alan Ziff, Burbank Housing, and Fountaingrove Dentistry – were honored at the May 21 Council meeting for their commitment to reducing water usage. The honorees installed low-water-use landscaping and high-efficiency water fixtures at their personal and professional residences to save almost one million gallons of water for our community. In the process, Burbank Housing and Fountaingrove Dentistry participated in Santa Rosa Water's direct install and sustained reduction rebate programs. Through Santa Rosa Water programs like Cash for Grass, the direct install program, and the sustained reduction rebate program, community members like this year's winners can save hundreds of thousands of gallons of water annually while cashing in on monetary savings. Santa Rosa Police Department Doubles the Number of Female Officers in Four Years
The Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) now employs 25 female officers, more than double the number of female officers only four years ago. In 2021, SRPD joined law enforcement agencies nationwide by participating in the “30x30 Initiative” to advance the representation of women in policing. Enhancing the diversity of the Police Department to better reflect the community served is an essential step in earning and maintaining public trust. The “30x30 Initiative” is based on the concept that minority groups are more empowered to influence cultural change when their representation reaches at least 30% within an organization. This principle applies to all minority groups, not just gender. SRPD is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable workplace, and we want to harness the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents that individuals from different backgrounds bring to the table.
