City Manager’s Project Update: Mahonia Glen Affordable Housing Development to Open Soon in Rincon Valley
Construction is nearly completed at the new Mahonia Glen affordable housing development in Rincon Valley, and residents are expected to begin moving in this summer. The complex at 5173 Highway 12 will provide 99 affordable apartments for families who meet income qualifications (currently $75,480 for a family of four); 43 of the homes are reserved for residents who work in farming and agriculture. The project was the first development in Santa Rosa to advance under SB 35—a bill that streamlines the approval of projects that meet affordability requirements. The City worked with the developer, MidPen Housing, to move the project quickly through the entitlement process and the Housing Authority contributed $4.9 million in deferred interest loans towards financing. Mahonia Glen is among a growing list of developments underway to meet housing needs in Santa Rosa, including more than 2,200 affordable homes either recently completed or in the City’s affordable housing pipeline.
