Santa Rosa Receives Prestigious Awards for Stormwater Protection Initiatives

Santa Rosa was recently honored by the California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA) for its outstanding efforts to protect the community’s waterways from pollutants. Santa Rosa Water’s Storm Water & Creeks team proudly accepted CASQA’s Outstanding Public Outreach Project Award for their innovative Streets to Creeks education campaign focused on preventing trash and pollutants from entering waterways from neighborhood streets. The City’s Information & Technology team was honored with the Best Management Practice (BMP) Implementation Project Award for developing an in-house Low Impact Development (LID) software program and database that allows team members to easily track and monitor LID features designed to capture stormwater runoff and protect water quality. Santa Rosa is also proud to share that the Student Stormwater Science Project Award winner is Sonoma State University (SSU). Santa Rosa Water collaborated with SSU’s Water Research Methods class to test the impacts of homelessness on water quality in creeks. LEARN MORE

Upcoming Nationwide Emergency Alert Test on Wednesday, Oct. 4

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) next Wednesday, Oct. 4. The national test will consist of two portions, testing WEA and EAS capabilities, with both tests scheduled to begin at approximately 11:20 a.m. This test aims to ensure that the systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. In case the Oct. 4 test is postponed due to widespread severe weather or other significant events, the backup testing date is Oct. 11. LEARN MORE

Half a Million Participants Enjoyed Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks this Spring & Summer

Way to get out and be active Santa Rosa! More than 500,000 participants enjoyed our City recreation programs, including summer camp experiences, sports programs, fitness classes, picnic site and field reservations, facility rentals, and senior center activities. We had more than 4,400 children and adults who learned to swim and nearly 65,000 visits to Howarth Park attractions, to name a few. Not to mention the over 800 new or renewed memberships in Aquatics, Senior, and Neighborhood Services programs.
