City Receives $9.5M State Grant for Development of Downtown Housing
The City has been awarded up to $9.5 million from the California Housing and Community Development Department to help create more housing in Santa Rosa’s downtown. The grant will support pre-development of two City-owned surplus parking lots in the 600 to 700 blocks of Third Street by funding site preparation and construction of key infrastructure. The grant supports the City Council’s pro-housing goals and directly addresses the critical need to create more housing downtown. The City Council designated the lots as surplus in 2022 after determining they were underutilized as parking only and could be put to their highest and best use for the whole community with the creation of housing onsite and with the replacement of some public parking. Currently, the City is reviewing two proposals and negotiating with developers to build housing on the sites. LEARN MORE
