Transit Equity Day Commemorates Rosa Parks with Free Fares on Feb. 4
Sonoma County’s local transit agencies are partnering with NAACP Santa Rosa-Sonoma on Feb. 4 to observe Transit Equity Day, a national day of action commemorating the life and legacy of Rosa Parks and other transit trailblazers, for their efforts in ensuring equity in transit for all. Rosa Parks became a key figure in the Civil Rights movement when she refused to give up her seat on a segregated Montgomery, Alabama public transit bus. Her acts of defiance are considered a pivotal moment that led to the U.S. Supreme Court decision declaring segregation on buses unconstitutional. Santa Rosa CityBus, Petaluma Transit and Sonoma County Transit will honor Rosa Parks and other transit trailblazers' legacy and contributions to transit equity by inviting everyone to ride fare-free on all regular routes, all day on Saturday, Feb. 4.
