Despite the much-needed rain this fall, we are still in a drought. Lake Sonoma, Santa Rosa’s primary drinking water source, is currently at record low storage levels, so it is critical to continue working together to save water. Since Oct. 1, 2022, Santa Rosa has only received 5 inches of rain, 56% of the average rainfall for this time of year. As of Dec. 7, 2022, water supply conditions in Lake Sonoma continue to be historically low at 39% of storage capacity. To increase our water supply, we need substantial rainfall to replenish our local reservoirs. In addition, we need to continue to save water this winter, which will help us stretch our water supplies for next year if the drought persists. Love Our Parks by Respecting Winter Field Closures
Sports fields at our City parks are now closed for the winter to give them time for maintenance and recovery. More than 20 local sports clubs, with 3,500 players and a steady stream of visiting teams use our sports fields, seven days a week for eight to ten months of the year. Using our playing fields when they are closed, especially when they are wet and muddy, can cause considerable damage. Field closure signs are currently being posted at all City sports fields. Please respect these closures so that our fields remain in good condition. LEARN MORE
