Santa Rosa Water Breaks Ground on Critical Water Recycling Infrastructure Replacement Project
Santa Rosa Water hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection replacement project at the Laguna Treatment Plant (LTP) this week. The $68 million project will replace the aged-out UV disinfection system currently in use at the LTP. Replacing the UV disinfection system is critical because it is the last step in water recycling before it can be reused for irrigation and renewable energy production. This project will ensure safe and reliable water recycling into the future, increase energy efficiency by requiring only half the energy of the current system, improve system redundancy and resiliency, and reduce operations and maintenance costs. The three-year project, funded by customer rates and fees, is a critical and necessary investment to ensure safe and reliable water recycling for the 230,000 people in the region that rely on the LTP for wastewater treatment and watershed protection.
