Our local housing crisis is underscored this week with the release of Sonoma County’s 2022 Homeless Count Report. Many who participated in the count cited a lack of affordable housing as a primary reason for their homelessness. Additionally, local housing officials say median-income residents who rely on rental assistance to meet the high cost of rent often can’t find housing, even with housing vouchers in hand. These vouchers offer guaranteed monthly rent, yet roughly 300 voucher holders currently cannot find a place to rent in Sonoma County. To raise awareness, the County and City recently launched a campaign called Housing Heroes. The campaign celebrates and encourages local property managers and homeowners who are helping to solve our housing crisis by renting to or home-sharing with tenants who participate in voucher programs.
