County of Sonoma Adopts Regional Stay-At-Home Order

Due to rising COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations, Sonoma County will join six other Bay Area counties and the City of Berkeley in preemptively adopting the California Department of Public Health’s Stay-Home Order, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, December 12. The local order adopts the restrictions contained within the State’s recently announced Regional Stay-at-Home order.

Under the order, residents will be directed to stay at home except for work, shopping or other essential activities, such as medical appointments, allowed by the State’s Regional Shelter in Place Order. All sectors other than retail and essential operations must be closed. Outdoor recreation will be allowed. The new restrictions will remain in place until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021. READ THE ORDER

Sign Up for CA Notify to Help Prevent the Spread

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, California has set up CA Notify, a new discreet notification service for smartphones. Once enabled, CA Notify will only send you alerts if you were in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 and who also has CA Notify enabled. It’s discreet: No contact information is needed at sign-up, and your privacy is protected as your identity is not known and your location is not tracked. In addition to wearing a face covering, physically distancing, and washing your hands, adding your smartphone can keep you and others safe. READ MORE

Help Guide Public Safety by Applying for the Chief’s Community Ambassador Team by Dec. 15

In response to community input and in coordination with the City of Santa Rosa’s Community Empowerment Plan, the Santa Rosa Police Department is forming the Chief’s Community Ambassador Team (C-CAT) to facilitate and enhance communication and the relationship between the Police Department and the community. Skyhawk Open Space Hazardous Tree Removal

City crews are chipping burnt limbs and removing felled fire-damaged trees this week along Skyhawk Creek in the open space above Skyhawk Park. Hazardous fire-damaged tree removal within open space areas started on December 9 to remove trees previously felled to mitigate any threat to life, property, or the environment following the Glass Fire. Trees currently standing will not be removed during this project unless it is determined an unsafe condition requiring immediate attention. READ MORE

City of Santa Rosa Welcomes New Mayor and Vice Mayor

City Council has determined the next mayor and vice mayor of Santa Rosa! Chris Rogers has been appointed Mayor and Natalie Rogers has been appointed vice mayor by their fellow City Council members following the December 8 swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Council District representatives. Artists to be Recommended for Imagine Art in Old Courthouse Square

After an extensive selection process that narrowed down over 140 submission to five finalists, one artist is being recommended for approval. Blessing Hancock’s design “Unum” was identified by the project Selection Panel as the top proposal and best satisfied the goals of the project. The recommendation comes before the Art in Public Places Committee on Monday, December 14. The development of the project included community engagement with stakeholders and surveys for general public input to help shape project goals and selection criteria. READ MORE

Santa Rosa City Council Adopts Open
Government Ordinance

City Council committed to taking further measures to create openness and transparency in Santa Rosa city government by officially adopting the Open Government Ordinance this week. The ordinance, which was first recommended by the 2014 Mayor’s Open Government Task Force, promotes the City Council’s Tier 1 Goals of Government and Council Reform. The key elements of the ordinance include earlier posting of City Council agendas; providing City Council agendas in both English and Spanish; streamlining the public records requests and appeals process; and creating a citizen guidebook to educate the public in basic local government operations and how to participate. The City’s Multicultural Roots Project is an ongoing historical project that looks to create broader visibility for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) in Sonoma County, with a particular focus on Santa Rosa; and to recognize, through historical stories from BIPOC, contributions and impacts that have shaped the City and the region. This week, we highlight World War II Veteran and founding member of the Community Baptist Church, Jesse Love. We also highlight President of 100 Black Men of Sonoma County, Arthur B. Chaney.

Brother Jesse Love: World War II Veteran, Deacon, Chaplain and Veteran’s Advocate

Jesse Love was an incredible and resilient man. Known as Brother Love, he was among the first African Americans to live in Santa Rosa; he was a veteran and one of the founding members of the Community Baptist Church. Outside the church, Mr. Love was well known throughout California and beyond for his work as a Chaplain with several veterans’ associations, including Theodore Roosevelt Post No. 21 of the American Legion. He was a charter member of the Santa Rosa based Chapter 23 of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and the Free & Accepted Masons. He also played in a local Negro baseball team called the Giants. Getting to Know Arthur B. Chaney, President of 100 Black Men of Sonoma County

Arthur B. Chaney is a man who has devoted his life to bettering the lives of others. He grew up in Oakland and although he originally went to school for hotel management, he quickly found his calling in law enforcement. He worked as a Child Support Officer in San Francisco, until serving as a Peace Officer in Santa Rosa. Now, the retired officer is President of 100 Black Men of Sonoma County (The 100). The 100 is a non-profit community action organization consisting of successful men who are committed to improving the economic and educational conditions for African Americans and others in need, with a particular focus on the development of youth. El Condado de Sonoma Emite una Nueva Orden de Permanecer en Casa

Debido al aumento del número de casos de COVID-19 y las hospitalizaciones, el Condado de Sonoma se unirá a otros seis condados del Área de la Bahía y a la Ciudad de Berkeley para adoptar de manera preventiva la Orden de Permanecer en Casa del Departamento de Salud Pública de California, a partir de las 12:01 am del sábado 12 de diciembre. La orden local adopta las restricciones contenidas en la Orden Regional de Permanecer en Casa anunciada recientemente por el Estado.

Según la orden, se indicará a los residentes a permanecer en casa, excepto para trabajar, ir de compras u otras actividades esenciales, como citas médicas, permitidas por la Orden Regional de Permanecer en Casa del Estado. Todos los sectores que no sean de negocios minoristas y operaciones esenciales deben cerrarse. Se permitirá la recreación al aire libre. Las nuevas restricciones permanecerán vigentes hasta las 11:59 p.m. el sábado 9 de enero de 2021.

Para ayudar a prevenir la propagación de COVID-19, California ha creado CA Notify, un nuevo servicio de notificación discreta para teléfonos inteligentes. Una vez activado, CA Notify solo le enviará alertas si estuvo en contacto cercano con alguien que dio positivo en la prueba de COVID-19 y que también tiene activado CA Notify. Es discreto: no se necesita información de contacto al registrarse y su privacidad está protegida, ya que no se conoce su identidad y no se rastrea su ubicación. Eliminación de Árboles Peligrosos en el Espacio
Abierto de Skyhawk

Los equipos de la Ciudad están cortando ramas quemadas y retirando árboles caídos dañados por el fuego esta semana a lo largo de Skyhawk Creek en el espacio abierto sobre el parque Skyhawk Park. La eliminación de árboles peligrosos dañados por incendios dentro de las áreas de espacios abiertos comenzó el 9 de diciembre para eliminar árboles previamente talados y mitigar cualquier amenaza a la vida, la propiedad o el medio ambiente después del Incendio Glass. Los árboles actualmente en pie no serán removidos durante este proyecto a menos que se determine una condición insegura que requiera atención inmediata. LEA MÁS

¡El Consejo Municipal ha determinado el próximo alcalde y vicealcalde de Santa Rosa! Chris Rogers ha sido nombrado alcalde y Natalie Rogers ha sido nombrada vicealcaldesa por sus compañeros miembros del Concejo Municipal después de la ceremonia de juramentación del 8 de diciembre de los representantes del Distrito del Concejo recién elegidos. Artistas Recomendados para Imaginar Arte en Old Courthouse Square

Después de un extenso proceso de selección que redujo más de 140 presentaciones a cinco finalistas, se recomienda la aprobación de un artista. El panel de selección del proyecto identificó el diseño de Blessing Hancock "Unum" como la mejor propuesta y mejor satisfacía los objetivos del proyecto. La recomendación se presenta ante el Comité de Arte en Lugares Públicos el lunes 14 de diciembre. El desarrollo del proyecto incluyó la participación de la comunidad con las partes interesadas y encuestas para la opinión del público en general para ayudar a moldear los objetivos del proyecto y los criterios de selección. La ordenanza, que fue recomendada por primera vez por el Grupo de Trabajo de Gobierno Abierto del Alcalde de 2014, promueve las Metas de Nivel 1 de Gobierno y Reforma del Concejo Municipal. Los elementos clave de la ordenanza incluyen la publicación anticipada de las agendas del Concejo Municipal; proporcionar agendas del Concejo Municipal en inglés y español; agilizar el proceso de apelaciones y solicitudes de registros públicos; y la creación de una guía ciudadana para educar al público sobre las operaciones básicas del gobierno local y cómo participar. Jesse Love fue un hombre increíble y resistente.
