Sonoma County Health Officer Amends the Stay Well Health Order
Sonoma County’s Health Officer, Dr. Sundari Mase, issued an amended health order this week to align the existing local health order with the state's revised framework for reopening. The amendment to the Stay Well Sonoma County Health Order (C19-15), which was originally adopted in June, allows local businesses and activities to reopen, as soon as possible, under the state's new framework. With the amendment, businesses will not need to wait for future local amendments to reopen as Sonoma County moves to new tiers within the state’s color coded tier system. READ MORE
Now Open: Nail Salons
 This week, nail salons in the Sonoma County, including Santa Rosa, may open for business with certain modifications. Individuals operating or working at a nail or beauty salon, or offer personal care services, please check with the State of California’s COVID-19 page, Blueprint for a Safer Economy, to see how you can operate safely during the pandemic. Emergency Shelter Installation Underway at Sam Jones Hall Homeless Shelter
 Installation has begun for an emergency shelter to restore bed capacity to pre COVID-19 levels at the City’s Samuel L. Jones Hall Homeless Shelter (SJH). In March 2020, to help protect SJH guests from COVID-19, it was necessary to relocate some individuals out of the facility to other sites so that required social distancing measures could be implemented at SJH, resulting in a loss of 56 beds. The approximately 8,000 square foot prefabricated building will be placed in the parking lot, adjacent to the current shelter building and will enable the City to restore available bed capacity back to pre-COVID-19 occupancy, while maintaining social distancing requirements. The project is anticipated to take approximately four months to complete, with occupancy estimated to begin in December. READ MORE
Community Blood Drive - Plasma from COVID-19 Survivors Needed
 Donate blood on October 15 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and help save lives. Additionally, COVID-19 survivors are needed to donate their plasma to help others currently fighting the virus. Please note that all blood donors are welcome, as donating blood is essential, but that all donors will also be tested for COVID-19 antibodies in order to help identify potential convalescent plasma donors who can help those currently battling COVID-19. It's a vital tool to help those facing severe cases, and this critically needed plasma is in short supply. Your plasma can make a difference. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

 Register to Vote by October 19
The last day to register to vote in the November 3 General Election is October 19. Registering is easy, visit RegisterToVote.ca.gov or request a paper registration form be mailed to you by calling (707) 565-6800.
Tracking Vote-By-Mail Ballots
Sonoma County voters can now track and receive notifications on the status of vote-by-mail ballots. To receive automatic email, text, or voice call notifications about your ballot, sign-up at wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov/. Voters will also receive communications from their county elections office about important election deadlines and critical updates such as polling place changes.

Measure Q
When you receive your Sonoma County voter guide, you'll see that Measure Q is up for vote in the Nov. 3, 2020, General Election. To maintain city services in Santa Rosa, the Santa Rosa City Council placed Measure Q on the ballot. Measure Q is a ½ cent local sales tax renewal measure that would extend the current tax rate but does not increase taxes. Measure Q would continue to provide locally controlled funding to maintain fire protection services, keep city parks and playgrounds clean and safe, improve disaster preparedness and response, repair potholes and maintain city streets.  Help us shape the future of Santa Rosa! The City of Santa Rosa is requesting members of the public to apply to become a member of the Community Advisory Committee for its General Plan Update (GPU). Community Engagement AmeriCorp VISTA Program
Each year, the City of Santa Rosa partners with St. Mary's College of California and Sonoma State University (SSU) to host an AmeriCorp VISTA member in the Community Engagement Office. The VISTA Member is tasked with SSU student volunteer recruitment and identifying in-service learning opportunities for students available at the City. In addition, the AmeriCorp VISTA also focuses on one engagement project for their service year. In the past, our VISTAs have assisted with community engagement efforts for the Roseland Annexation and Neighborfest Program.

Meet Alexandria Anderson, 2nd Year Community Engagement AmeriCorp VISTA
 As a second-year VISTA, Alexandria's role focuses on social justice and racial equity issues. Alexandria is engaging with our local youth around the interactions and relationship they have with the Santa Rosa Police Department. She is also assisting the City’s Community Engagement staff with the new Multicultural Roots Project and is planning for the upcoming ethnic studies project. This work is important to Alexandria “for many different reasons, but most specifically because being Black in a predominately white work environment and broader community truly reveals the inequities our community faces”. PG&E Settlement Public Input Survey
The City of Santa Rosa received $95M from PG&E to settle a claim for its 2017 wildfire damages, and the Santa Rosa City Council wants to hear from the community regarding how to prioritize allocation of the settlement funds on needs within our community. In addition to fire recovery projects, the Council also expects to consider a range of other projects aimed at strengthening the resiliency of the community. Residents are encouraged to learn more about the settlement funds and complete an online survey to provide input and ideas by October 4. READ MORE

Santa Rosa Family Rescues a Juvenile Cooper’s Hawk
Folks have been through so much this year so when the Brazis family of Santa Rosa heard distressed cries coming from their yard, they immediately looked at each other and wondered, what’s next?!? Rushing outside they found a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk on the ground at the base of what they assumed was the nest tree. Days before the family had seen the same young hawk squabbling with another hawk. This time the young hawk appeared to have lost the battle.
Family members scooped up the bird and immediately brought it to the Bird Rescue Center (BRC) in Santa Rosa. Katie, the BRC Hospital Manager, found evidence of impact trauma, missing feathers, slight visual issues, and bruising. READ MORE

Creek Critter of the Week
 Bushtits are thumb-sized birds that often travel along our creeks in large groups. Watch for them in trees and shrubs, moving through the branches, often hanging upside down, as they glean insects. The gender of these birds can be identified because the female has a light eye compared to the male’s dark eye. See if you can spot one of these tiny birds this week while taking a walk in your neighborhood! SRCity.org/CreekWeek

Donación Comunitaria de Sangre

Conozca a Alexandria Anderson, Segundo Año de Participación Comunitaria de AmeriCorp VISTA
 Como estudiante de VISTA por segundo año, el papel de Alexandria se enfoca en asuntos de justicia social y equidad racial. Alexandria está participando con nuestros jóvenes locales en las interacciones y la relación que tienen con el Departamento de Policía de Santa Rosa. También está ayudando al personal de Participación Comunitaria de la Ciudad con el nuevo Proyecto de Raíces Multiculturales y está planificando el próximo proyecto de estudios étnicos. Este trabajo es importante para Alexandria "por muchas razones diferentes, pero más específicamente porque ser Negro en un entorno de trabajo predominantemente blanco y una comunidad más amplia realmente revela las desigualdades que enfrenta nuestra comunidad". Encuesta de Opinión Pública sobre Liquidación de PG&E
La Ciudad de Santa Rosa recibió $95 millones de PG&E para resolver un reclamo por los daños causados por incendios forestales del 2017, y el Ayuntamiento de Santa Rosa quiere escuchar a la comunidad sobre cómo priorizar la asignación de los fondos del acuerdo a las necesidades dentro de nuestra comunidad. Una Familia de Santa Rosa Rescata a Pequeño Halcón de Cooper
La gente ha pasado por tanto este año que cuando la familia brasileña de Santa Rosa escuchó gritos de angustia provenientes de su jardín, inmediatamente se miraron y se preguntaron: "¿Qué sigue?!? Salieron corriendo y encontraron un halcón de Cooper en el suelo en la base de lo que supusieron que era el árbol nido. Días antes, la familia había visto al mismo pequeño halcón pelearse con otro halcón. Esta vez, el joven halcón parecía haber perdido la batalla.
Los miembros de la familia recogieron el ave y la llevaron inmediatamente al Centro de Rescate de Aves (BRC, por sus siglas en inglés) en Santa Rosa. Katie, la Gerente del Hospital BRC, encontró evidencia de trauma por impacto, falta de plumas, leves problemas visuales y hematomas. LEA MÁS
