The East Region Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) opened its doors today, Tuesday, July 28. The new, 14,000-square foot facility in El Cajon is the first CSU of its kind in East County and the seventh serving adults ages 18+ in San Diego County. CSUs offer 24/7 immediate support and treatment for people experiencing a psychiatric or substance use emergency.
The facility is located at 200 S Magnolia Ave, El Cajon 92020 (near West Douglas) and has 12 recliners. Services offered by the CSU include stabilization, behavioral health assessment, medication assistance, therapy, peer support, and connection to ongoing support or treatment in a calm, safe environment. The site is close to public transit and freeways for easy access, and other East County-based behavioral health services. The program is operated by Exodus Recovery.
CSUs offer a more effective option for urgent behavioral health care than emergency departments, hospitals, or jails. People may walk-in voluntarily or be transported on a Welfare & Institutions Code (WIC) 5150. Stays last up to 24 hours.
Check out the Ribbon Cutting celebration video, as well as the sneak peek video preview for a closer look inside. Visit the CSU webpage to learn more and view all locations.
