You’re Invited to a Family-Friendly Budget Open House
A kid-friendly open house is taking place from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 22nd at the County Operations Center in Kearny Mesa. Children can meet some adoptable animals, see the Sheriff’s cat, and view other emergency vehicles up close.
Grown-ups can learn about the County's recommended budget taking effect on July 1st, and how it may affect them and their community. Staff will be available to answer any questions that participants may have. Please click here if you would like to leave budget comments online from now until 5:00 PM on June 12th.
If you are unable to attend this Open House, there is the option to attend a virtual community meeting scheduled for 5:30 PM on Wednesday, May 28th.

County Names New Public Health Officer
Dr. Sayone Thihalolipavan has been named as the County of San Diego’s new Public Health Officer. Dr. Thihalolipavan most recently served as Public Health Medical Officer within the County’s Medical Care Services Department. To learn more, please click here!

NEW! 2025 Request for Proposals — Latina Giving Circle - The Latina Giving Circle empowers Latinas and allies in the San Diego community and beyond to unite and amplify impact by pooling their resources to support the causes that are most important to them. Their grants support vital programs that address critical needs and create a more equitable San Diego. Applications are due June 15, 2025.

Maryann Jackson Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship offers 5 winners a $100 gift card for dorm essentials. Applicants must be African American, a U.S. citizen, have attended a California Community College, and be enrolled at a Historically Black College/University for Fall 2025. Applications are due July 13, 2025.

UC San Diego Black Alumni Scholarship Fund - This scholarship offers eligible students a four-year $10,000 scholarship, renewable at $2,500 annually. It provides financial, academic, and personal support to over 200 students currently attending UCSD. Applications are due November 30, 2025.

Humanities for All Quick Grants - This program responds to the needs and interests of Californians and encourages greater public participation in humanities programming, particularly by new and/or underserved audiences. Applications are open year-round.

Greenhouse Gas Reduction Loan Program - Provides funds to support new or expanded organics infrastructure, such as composting and anaerobic digestion facilities, as well as for facilities that manufacture fiber, plastic, or glass waste materials into beneficial products. Applications are open year-round.

Brightlife Kids Mental Health Resources for Parents
In honor of May is Mental Health Awareness Month, take some time to reflect on your child's needs and know that if you need additional resources, Brightlife Kids offers private, one-on-one support for caregivers and children up to age 12. Their services are completely free and confidential. All you need to sign up is an email address and a California zip code.

Advancing Throughout the Year
Advancing Throughout the Year engages partners all year long by building upon important Live Well Advance session topics and creating opportunities to connect. Monthly activities will be offered throughout 2025—including live webinars and networking events—in celebration of the 15-year anniversary of the Live Well San Diego Vision.

Health and social services are available for eligible San Diego Medi-Cal members with complex needs
Enhanced Care Management for Medi-Cal Members | Spanish - One-on-one care management to support health and social needs
Community Supports for Medi-Cal Members | Spanish - 14 services to support well-being in the community - such as help finding housing, medically tailored meals, asthma remediation and more.
Transportation for Medi-Cal Members | Spanish - Transit passes, ride share services, accessible vans and more may be available to help you get to medical appointments or get medical supplies.
Eligible Medi-Cal members can enroll through their Medi-Cal Managed Care Plan (Blue Shield Promise, Community Health Group, Kaiser Permanente, or Molina Healthcare). Enhanced Care Management and Community Supports referral forms, materials in additional languages, and more information can be found at sandiegocounty.gov/SDAIM.
