5K Fitness Challenge #8: Get Inspired By Nature!

day 8

July 8, 2017 - Get Inspired By Nature!

San Diego is a beautiful place to live. There are so many wonderful places to go for a walk or run where you can feel the sun, breathe fresh air and witness breathtaking views. Nature has an awesome way of relieving our stresses and inspiring us to go further.

Below are 5 paths to help you reconnect with nature while completing your fitness goals:

  1. Moonlight State Beach – Encinitas: Start at Moonlight Beach (where Encinitas Blvd meets the beach) and walk north to Beacon's Beach (where Leucadia Blvd meets the beach). Walk back for a 5K round-trip distance.
  2. Waterfront Park – City of San Diego: Did you know walking 4 times around the outside of the waterfront park is a little more than a 5K? Enjoy the fountains, native plant garden and views of the city and bay.
  3. Lake Murray - City of San Diego: Take the lake trail around the lake from the parking lot to Bowman Cove (just past the golf course, near the first little league baseball field) and back for a 5K round trip distance. Of course, if you really want to challenge yourself, walking all the way to the dam gate and back is the same distance as walking two 5K's!
  4. Lower Otay Lake - Chula Vista: Start at Mountain Hawk Park, just north of the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center and take the Centennial Trail north to Otay Lakes Road and back for a 5K round-trip distance.
  5. Bayshore Bikeway – Coronado, Imperial Beach: Start at Orange Avenue near Glorietta Boulevard in Coronado and follow the multi-use path southward towards Imperial Beach along the silver strand. At The Silver Strand Nature’s Bridge to Discovery Pier, turn around for an approximate 5K round-trip distance.

The Coastal Rail Trail is a wonderful biking and walking trail that connects the Cities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Solana Beach, linking users with communities, parks, businesses and beaches:
