July 21, 2017 - Plan For A Healthy Snack!

We are all on the go so often these days, driving from activity to activity, that it can sometimes be difficult to get in a healthy meal. A little bit of planning can help curb your hunger until you can make a healthy choice.

The National Institutes of Health offers these 3 tips for eating healthy on the go:

  1. Pack Go foods ahead of time – Pack healthy snacks in a small cooler or bag before you leave. Things like fresh fruit, veggies, nuts or crackers will help to quell hunger in a pinch. Whether you are at work or running errands, healthy snacks are good to have with you.
  2. Make healthy choices at fast-food restaurants – Try a salad, skip the fries or replace them with sliced fruit and swap out fried meats for grilled.
  3. Read the nutrition label – Pick snacks low in calories and sugar, and double-check the serving size. Sometimes a single container or bottle will contain many servings.

The American Heart Association offers a great list of tasty, healthy snacks that crunch, satisfy and curb your sweet tooth.

American Cancer Society Director of Healthy Eating, Active Living Colleen Doyle, MS, RD, gives tips that you can easily build into your hectic schedule at work, with the kids, and when dining out:
