July 15, 2017 - BOOST Your Workout with Buddies!
Sometimes you just don’t feel like
working out or taking a walk on your lunch break. This is when the buddy system
comes in handy! Breaking plans with yourself is easy, but when you have someone
that is counting on you, skipping a workout is harder to do.
Working out with a buddy keeps you
accountable, is a lot more fun and will help you stick with it longer.
Invite a neighbor or co-worker to join
you on your challenge walks or runs, or join one of these walking groups hosted
by Live Well San Diego Partners:
Kaiser
Permanente’s
Everybody Walks program found that participants who joined walking groups
experienced significant reductions in blood pressure, body fat, body
mass index (BMI), resting heart rate and total cholesterol – all factors that
may reduce the risk of a number of conditions – including stroke and heart
disease. Walkers also demonstrated improved lung power and general fitness, as well
as lower depression levels.
In 2008, Dr. Michael Moreno launched the program
“Walk with Your Doc”, which started when he offered to walk with a patient to
motivate her to exercise. Find out how his inspirational idea has grown into a
thriving community:
Don’t forget - we have Meet-Ups planned for this weekend! Grab a buddy and join us for a walk/hike from our Fitness Challenge Meet-Up Calendar.
