Take the Survey for a Chance to Win Free Plants!
The Mojave River Watershed Group (MRWG) invites you to take a quick survey to share your thoughts on stormwater pollution education, how you use and enjoy the Mojave River and how we can best serve our community. Your feedback will help shape future programs and resources designed for our High Desert residents.
The best part is that one survey participant will be chosen at random to win a $50 gift voucher to Nate’s Nursery, our Business Alliance partner located in the Town of Apple Valley. Our winner will be chosen on April 8, so be sure to take the survey by then. It is completely confidential.
We appreciate your feedback!
Here’s How You Can Celebrate Earth Day in the High Desert
Join us in celebrating Earth Day with events in the High Desert that will make great memories for the whole family.
On April 18, Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority is teaming up with American Organics, Anaergia and Southwest Gas for a free Earth Day celebration with tours, activities, a Kids Zone, and food. Families can learn about the cutting-edge technology that turns waste into energy. Visit one of Southern California’s most advanced composting facilities and learn how Athens Services (who operates the American Organics facility) turns organic waste into compost and mulch.

MRWG is Back on YouTube: Meet Sonny the Stormwater Trooper!
Our newest YouTube video features the Enviroscape demonstration that educates viewers about how everyday actions impact the Mojave River Watershed.
The Mojave River Watershed Group is back on YouTube with a fresh new look and new content designed just for our High Desert community.
Subscribe to our channel for stormwater pollution prevention tips, eco-friendly how-tos, watershed education, and behind-the-scenes looks at how MRWG works to protect the Mojave River Watershed.
New Video: Enviroscape with Sonny the Stormwater Trooper
Don’t miss our newest video, Enviroscape with Sonny the Stormwater Trooper, where Sonny teams up with a Future Trooper to demonstrate how pollution travels through our watershed.
Through the interactive Enviroscape model, students can see firsthand how everyday pollutants like litter, pet waste and chemicals move through storm drains and impact the Mojave River Watershed.
The best part? We can bring this demonstration directly to your classroom or community event. Students will not only learn how pollution affects our local ecosystem, but also how they can take action as Stormwater Troopers to protect it.

Did You Know?
The Joshua Tree isn’t actually a tree. The iconic Joshua Tree (Yucca brevifolia) is the world’s largest yucca plant growing just 2-3 inches a year and living 500+ years. It thrives in the High Desert alongside the Mojave River, where its survival depends on a one-of-a-kind partnership with yucca moths and the delicate desert ecosystem.

💧 300+ Students Unite for Water Conservation
More than 300 students and teachers gathered for the Innovators High Desert Water Summit, hosted by MRWG’s Business Alliance Partner, the Mojave Water Agency, for a full day dedicated to water conservation and watershed stewardship.
Through interactive, hands-on activities, students discovered how storm drains connect directly to our local waterways, why pollution prevention is critical and how simple, everyday choices at school and at home can protect the Mojave River and its watershed. Along the way, they learned more about MRWG’s mission and the collective work happening across our region to safeguard this vital resource.
By the end of the day, 86 students committed to becoming Stormwater Troopers, pledging to help keep our storm drains and waterways clean. When young people see how their actions directly impact our water, they become the leaders who protect it.

Business Alliance Spotlight: Mediterranean Island Kebab Grill
Pollution prevention doesn’t just happen at community clean-ups and events. It happens behind the scenes, every single day.
That’s why we’re excited to spotlight Mediterranean Island Kebab Grill, a local business that understands that what happens on their property can impact the Mojave River Watershed downstream.
Restaurants play an important role in water quality. From proper grease disposal to keeping trash secured, small operational choices matter. Mediterranean Island Kebab Grill has stepped up as a watershed partner, showing that environmental responsibility and running a successful local business go together.
When local businesses are proactive, they set the tone for how other businesses and residents in the community can also help prevent pollution before it reaches the river. That means cleaner water, healthier habitats and a stronger High Desert for all of us.
We’re grateful for partners who don’t just serve the community but help protect it too.
