Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in May since 1949. Every year, the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) joins the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to raise awareness about mental health by hosting various events throughout May. This month serves as an important opportunity to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote the importance of mental well-being in our communities.
These events will focus on reducing stigma, providing resources, and fostering open conversations about mental health challenges faced by individuals and families.
Throughout the month, DBH will offer various activities, including workshops, informational meetings and community outreach programs designed to engage residents and provide them with valuable information regarding mental health services available in San Bernardino County. The goal is to empower individuals with knowledge and support while encouraging them to seek help.
“Mental health is a vital aspect of our community, and it is essential for us to be aware of the resources available to support it,” stated Dr. Georgina Yoshioka, director of the Department of Behavioral Health. “Through hosting these events, we strive to foster an environment where everyone feels safe and encouraged to discuss their mental health needs openly.”
