Welcome to the Fall edition of Milestones!
Dear friends of First 5 San Bernardino,
We’re still basking in the memories of our special 25th anniversary event held last month. Thank you to all who joined us to commemorate this significant milestone. We are grateful to our featured speakers as well as past and present Commissioners who added a special presence to the program on November 14.
It was my honor to present Local Champion Awards and San Bernardino County Partner Awards at the event acknowledging the organizations and individuals who have contributed to our success.
You’ll want to give our new video a second look as it is heartwarming to see how many children have been impacted by the mission of First 5 San Bernardino.
In the same month, we were honored with four awards by the Public Relations Society of America Inland Empire Chapter recognizing our commitment to impactful marketing and communications efforts. One award celebrated our social media program, as we utilize these channels to provide important resources to our county’s families. As part of this, check out our “Sunday Shoutouts” where we provide bi-weekly event listings on social media for parents and caregivers to help children thrive.
Lastly, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to Erika Willhite, staff analyst II, who is an important and valuable member of the team with a very impressive background.
Wishing you a very happy holiday season.
Sincerely, Karen Scott First 5 San Bernardino Executive Director

Erika Willhite Staff Analyst II
Say hello to Erika Willhite! Erika joined First 5 San Bernardino in 2020 as a Staff Analyst II when her daughter was three years old. She felt that working with an organization that had a direct impact on children and their families was congruent with her role as a mother. And to us that makes perfect sense!
Erika’s role at First 5 San Bernardino includes representing the organization in meetings, participating as a member of the Local Child Care Planning Council, assisting with funding opportunities, collaborating with partner agencies and much more. Erika is an important and valuable member of the team.
Thank you, Erika, for the work you do for our team and families in our county!

About First 5 San Bernardino
The Children and Families Commission for San Bernardino County (First 5 San Bernardino) was created in December 1998, in order to realize the benefits of Proposition 10 (California Children and Families Act) for the County's youngest residents and their families. The act created a program for the purpose of promoting, supporting and improving the early development of children from the prenatal stage to five years of age, under the guidance of the Children and Families Commission for San Bernardino, and in collaboration with the community and agencies providing services to children.
