County enriches lives of foster youth
 In an effort to provide foster children with the same access to growth and development experiences as children who are not in the child welfare system, Children and Family Services (CFS) has used state funding to offer the CFS Youth Enrichment and Exploration Program (YEEP). This year-round program provides financial support to children and youth in foster care to pay for extracurricular activities, including sports team memberships, music or art classes, cultural enrichment activities and much more.

San Bernardino County destinations: Oak Glen Preserve

The Oak Glen Preserve, located in Yucaipa, is the perfect getaway for families, hikers, birdwatchers, nature lovers and beyond. It features the Southern California Montane Botanic Garden, Children’s Outdoor Discovery Center, the Los Rios Rancho Apple Farm and plenty of trails for the adventure seeker. Plus, visitors can relax by the ponds and streams that are spread out across the preserve. Also, visitors can enjoy picnicking and wildlife viewing.

For this week’s history column, we conclude our series of highlighting the many great county residents who have served as the auditor-controller/treasurer/tax collector (ATC) since 1853 by recognizing our current ATC, Ensen Mason.
Mason was elected to his position in June 2018. He has brought over 30 years of experience in tax preparation and investment advising. In addition, he is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He holds a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in finance from the University of Redlands.
