Dear Residents,
San Bernardino County is rapidly responding to the Bridge Fire that has burned more than 49,000 acres and prompted mandatory evacuations in the communities of Wrightwood and Pinon Hills.
On Tuesday afternoon, wind-fueled flames caused the fire to grow exponentially and crest into Wrightwood.
While hundreds of homes are threatened and thousands of residents have been displaced by this fire, crews have worked tirelessly through the night to fight the fire, improve containment, and protect life and property. At this time, the fire is 0 percent contained.
According to Angeles National Forest, “structural protection and defense groups have been placed in the communities of Wrightwood and Mount Baldy, with more of these resources on order. Top priorities for suppression efforts remain on the north and east sides of the fire to protect communities and critical communication and power infrastructure.”
Caltrans District 8 stated that SR-2 remains closed in both directions from Big Pines to SR-138. SR-138 is also closed in both directions from Lone Pine to Beekley. There is no ETA of reopening at this time.
I’d like to thank all of the agencies who are working tirelessly to protect homes and property in the area, including San Bernardino County Fire, San Bernardino County Sheriff, Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County Fire, the National Guard, Sheriff's Volunteer Forces and our County Office of Emergency Services.
Following are some resources for residents to help navigate this difficult situation. Please reach out to our office if you need further information or assistance by calling (760) 995-8100 or emailing Supervisor.Cook@bos.sbcounty.gov.
 Evacuation Orders Remain in Effect for Wrightwood, Pinon Hills
The Wrightwood and Pinon Hills communities are under evacuation orders.
Evacuation orders are currently in place for:
- The entire community of Wrightwood
- Pinon Hills from Wrightwood north to Highway 18 and Beekley Road west to L.A. County
- Lone Pine Canyon from the community of Wrightwood to Hwy. 138/Lone Pine Canyon Road south to the forest.
- The area from Hwy 138 south to Lone Pine Canyon and Hwy 2 east to Lone Pine Canyon Road.
An Evacuation Order means your life is in danger and you must leave right away. Your cooperation ensures your safety and prevents emergency resources from being pulled away from other critical efforts.
There are Evacuation Warnings for:
- The area of Phelan from Hwy 138 east to Baldy Mesa Road and Phelan Road south to Sayle Road.
An Evacuation Warning means get ready to leave. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.

 MDAQMD Advising of Poor Air Quality Throughout High Desert
The Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District (MDAQMD) is advising of potentially poor air quality in the High Desert of San Bernardino County due to wildfire smoke impacts from the Line and Bridge fires. This advisory remains in effect until further notice depending on firefighting efforts and local weather conditions.
Based on fire growth and firefighting efforts, all communities in the San Bernardino County portion of MDAQMD jurisdiction may be impacted by smoke from both incidents.
Increasing levels of smoke can affect everyone, but it’s particularly unhealthy for those with heart and respiratory illnesses, children, seniors and active adults.
In any area impacted by poor air quality including smoke:
- everyone should consider avoiding any vigorous outdoor or indoor exertion;
- people with respiratory or heart disease, older adults, and children should consider remaining indoors;
- keep windows and doors closed;
- run your air conditioner if you have one – recirculation function is ideal;
- avoid using a swamp cooler or whole-house fan to prevent bringing outdoor pollutants inside.
- Stay informed through the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District (MDAQMD).
