
Thanks to San Bernardino County Public Works for their beautiful work resurfacing the Trona Senior Center parking lot.
"We used the parking lot for the first time on Wednesday for our produce distribution," said manager Ahmed Elhawary. "It was with such ease that we were able to slide the dollies and the pallet jack over the smooth surface. It was easier on everyone!"
District Director Kimberly Mesen was pleased to join the 100th birthday celebration for Michael Anthony Mercadante in Helendale on Tuesday.
Michael served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1950, serving in an artillery tank division in the South Pacific during World War II, and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. Later, he worked as an educator at Redondo Union High School, El Camino College and St. Hedwig Catholic School.
Michael is an active Citizen on Patrol with the Victor Valley Station, enjoys gardening, and still drives and mows his own lawn.
Congratulations on this important milestone! Wishing you a very happy birthday and continued good health for years to come!

This annual networking event brings together local businesses to develop working relationships, make new friends, and enjoy an evening at one of the High Desert's most beautiful and historic properties.
Constituent Services Director Samuel Shoup was in Hesperia on Monday to celebrate Panera Bread's Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting with the Greater High Desert Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations!

Last week, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department’s Homeless Outreach Proactive Enforcement Team (H.O.P.E.) conducted "Operation Shelter Me" in Hesperia and surrounding areas.
The team located 50 homeless individuals. Thirty four were provided with program referrals, 14 were provided with direct assistance and two were placed into housing programs.

Apple Valley Police Department is hosting a “Drive Well, Age Well” class for seniors from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 27. This class will take place at the Apple Valley Conference Center and is limited to 20 seniors. Register with Pam Hoffman at (760) 240-7428.

Eligible veterans of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War, whose education was interrupted for military service, can now apply to receive their high school diploma through Oct. 2, 2023.
Operation Recognition Veterans Diploma Project is offered in partnership between San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and Veterans Affairs, allowing veterans the opportunity to be presented with their diplomas.

San Bernardino County Code Enforcement has recently updated the phone number for residents to report short-term rentals that operate illegally or create a nuisance. The updated toll-free number is 1-833-722-7871.
The previous phone number will no longer be active beginning November 2023. In August 2021, Code Enforcement launched a new 24-hour complaint hotline to report illegal short-term rentals typically booked through vacation rental services such as Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com.
In addition to the phone number change, code enforcement officers are now available to respond to after-hours complaints on Friday, Saturday or county observed holidays from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m.

San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools is hosting its 2023 "Family and Community Engagement Summit: A Vision of Equity: A Path for Everyone," on September 23.
This annual event is designed to provide families, schools and community partners with info and resources to support and guide all students to college and career readiness.

Two community cleanups are planned in the First District this week.
Hesperia’s Neighborhood Beautification Day is planned for Thursday, Sept. 21. Hesperia residents can dispose of unwanted bulky items such as mattresses, carpet, furniture, and appliances for free. The event takes place from 8 a.m. until noon at 17105 Mesa Street.
San Bernardino County Code Enforcement is teaming up with Trona Care for the annual Trona Neighborhood Cleanup from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 23. There will be three sites where residents can participate:
- Old Argus Fire Station - 82275 Trona Rd.
- Old Recreation Hall - corner of California St. & Argus Ave.
- Trails Drive In - corner of Trona Rd. & Carson St.
During this time, the Trona Fire Station 57 will also be hosting a household hazardous waste collection event. Trona students are encouraged to volunteer at the event for community service hours. Please see Julia Pitman in the Recreation Hall at 8 a.m. to sign in.

The High Desert Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host its annual "Connexión! State of Hispanic Market Conference," this Friday Sept. 22. The event will take place Courtyard by Marriott, located at 9619 Mariposa Road in Hesperia.
This event connects industry and community with topics including access to capital, housing trends, and much more.

San Bernardino County Regional Parks will host the 57th annual Calico Days event this weekend, Sept. 23-24, at Calico Ghost Town.
This popular annual event features an 1880s costume contest, Miner’s Triathlon, Burro Run, live music, reenactments and much more.
The Miner’s Triathlon will be held on Saturday, and the Burro Run and Bucket Brigade take place on Sunday.
Calico Days will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 for children ages 4-11. Calico Ghost Town is located at 36600 Ghost Town Road in Yermo.

The 24th Annual San Bernardino County Sheriff’s P.R.C.A Rodeo will take place this Friday, Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 24 at Glen Helen Regional Park.
This annual fundraising event brings together the world’s top professional cowboys and cowgirls. Events will include bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and team roping.

Join the Town of Apple Valley for an exciting day of fitness and fun at the Reverse Triathlon on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Civic Center Park.
Check-in begins at 5:30 a.m. The Reverse Triathlon will include a 5k run, 12-mile bike course and 150-yard pool swim. The kids triathlon consists of a 1k run, 1-mile bike ride, and a 50-yard swim. A standalone 5K will also be offered.
