Welcome to the summer edition of Milestones!
Summertime means sunny days and extra play time outdoors. The season also presents certain dangers to our most vulnerable age group – infants and toddlers. First 5 San Bernardino (F5SB) recognizes these potential hazards and is here as a resource to help stop dangerous situations before they begin. We’re excited to share our new Kid Safe Summer campaign promoting water, sun and on-the-move safety via a bilingual integrated marketing campaign. The campaign kickoff focused on water safety and received media coverage on KNBC Channel 4 and multi-state coverage on Spanish language Telemundo/KVEA Channel 52 including live remotes throughout their May 22 morning news broadcast. Read more about this exciting campaign in the article below!
We are proud to have received an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo) promoting oral health for children through our Little Teeth, Big Responsibility campaign in partnership with SBC’s Department of Public Health’s local oral health program, Smile SBC.
Please make sure to read about our new 2023-2028 Strategic Plan recently approved by the Commission, learn more about the NAEBOR Clinic, a funded partner dedicated to improving pregnancy outcomes for Black and African American women, and meet Business Support Manager Kim Browder, whose passion for serving families has turned into a perfect match with her career.
Sincerely,
Karen Scott

First 5 San Bernardino’s New ‘Kid Safe Summer’ Campaign Protects our County’s Children in the Summer Months
First 5 San Bernardino Kid Safe Summer Advertisement (On-the-Move Safety)
First 5 San Bernardino (F5SB) launched another flagship campaign supporting our Child Health Strategic Priority Area called Kid Safe Summer. This bilingual four-month campaign from May through August promotes summer safety among San Bernardino County families in both English and Spanish.
Hot temperatures, fun in the water and more time on-the-go present a new set of dangers for kids that aren’t as prevalent in other seasons. F5SB released a collection of educational tools, tips and resources to help parents and caregivers keep little ones safe this summer.
Kid Safe Summer breaks down into three categories of safety – water, sun and on-the-move. The new campaign includes local advertising on websites, news sites, radio stations and SnapChat, as well as a robust social media campaign, free educational webinars and media relations efforts.

About First 5 San Bernardino
The Children and Families Commission for San Bernardino County (First 5 San Bernardino) was created in December 1998, in order to realize the benefits of Proposition 10 (California Children and Families Act) for the County's youngest residents and their families. The act created a program for the purpose of promoting, supporting and improving the early development of children from the prenatal stage to five years of age, under the guidance of the Children and Families Commission for San Bernardino, and in collaboration with the community and agencies providing services to children.
