County Hosts Summit for Mental Health Awareness Month
The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month in May and invites the community to attend events throughout the month including the Resilient and Real Summit on Wednesday, May 17 in Rancho Cucamonga.
The event is a part of Mental Health Awareness Month, a national movement to raise awareness about mental health, reduce stigma surrounding mental health, and provide support and education to the public.
Resilient and Real is a podcast produced by DBH, that creates a platform to speak openly about mental health and substance use disorders in efforts to reduce stigma, promote prevention, intervention, and recovery of mental illness and substance use disorders. The podcast premiers twice a month and serves as an authentic resource for our community.
The Resilient and Real Summit will model a podcast format but take place in person, with a live audience and guest speakers for a more engaging experience. Registered attendees will have networking opportunities, receive behavioral health resources, and enjoy a complimentary breakfast. Registration is required as space is limited. The purpose of this event is to provide education and awareness to community-based organizations providing essential services to San Bernardino County residents. Foundational topics include, “Understanding the Basics,” and “Terminology,” surrounding mental health and mental illness. We will also discuss the effects of “Trauma” and “Stigma”, and the importance that “Culture” plays in these conversations about optimal wellness.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has identified the 2023 theme of May to be “More than Enough”. In May and all year long, San Bernardino County affirms the idea that people are inherently worthy of life, love, and healing — no matter what they look like, no matter where they are in their journeys, no matter what they are or aren’t able to do.
Register by May 5th at Resilient and Real Summit
