County CEO Evaluation Sets the Stage for San Bernardino County Priorities
Earlier today, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors discussed achievements from 2022, and looked toward initiatives, priorities, and projects that will be the focus in 2023 during their annual executive session evaluation of Chief Executive Officer, Leonard X. Hernandez.
County Chief Executive Officer Leonard Hernandez highlighted key accomplishments from 2022, including a balanced budget with healthy reserves, expanded programs that serve our vulnerable populations, and the increased use of technology to better serve our residents. One example of this is the launch of “SeeClickFix”, an app for residents to report potholes, street sign damage, and utility line damages. Additionally, the county launched an innovative weekly video segment sharing news about what’s happening across its social media channels. The Board also continues to focus on the challenge of housing and homelessness as outlined in the County’s Homeless Strategic Plan and recently approved an additional $73 million to advance this effort. The Board also commended the hard work carried out in response to the recent record-breaking snowstorms and has the utmost confidence in this CEO’s ability to bring out the best in the organization in evaluating the response and creating the tools needed for an even better response next time.
Looking at 2023-24 priorities, the Board of Supervisors will continue to focus on supporting vulnerable populations, economic development, innovation, streamlining the Land Use Services department that supports our development community, and continued financial stability for San Bernardino County.
During the evaluation, Chair Dawn Rowe said, “We are extremely fortunate to have Leonard’s leadership and the stability he has brought to county operations. The county maintains strong financial reserves and a balanced budget, which puts us on solid financial footing for the years ahead. The Board looks forward to working with Leonard and his experienced executive leadership team to carry out our strategic priorities.”
Vice Chairman Col. Paul Cook said, “I appreciate the executive leadership that Leonard brings to the County, and to my constituents. His knowledge of County operations continues to enable us to provide services that meet and exceed the needs of our communities.”
Second District Supervisor Jesse Armendarez said, “It’s been a pleasure to get to know and work with Leonard over these last several months. I have full confidence in his ability to execute key policy priorities for the County and the Second District. Under his leadership, I believe the County’s future will be bright.”
Fourth District Supervisor Curt Hagman said, “I am thankful and impressed with the innovation and ingenuity that the County has achieved over the last few years under Leonard’s leadership. With a collaborative effort of the Board, our CEO, and the County team, we can continue to accomplish great things.”
Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca Jr., said, “I appreciate Leonard’s dedication to public service and serving some of our most underserved areas. This passion is something we have in common which gives me a great sense of fulfillment in continuing to work with him to address some of the County’s biggest challenges.”
