Trona Earthquake Update No. 4

  • President Donald J. Trump on Monday declared that an emergency exists in the State of California and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State, tribal, and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from earthquakes beginning on July 4, 2019, and continuing.
  • The White House reached out to Supervisor Lovingood, and they continue to work on assistance.
  • Early Saturday morning, San Bernardino County signed a declaration of local emergency to assist the San Bernardino County communities affected by two days of earthquakes. Governor Newsom has likewise signed a declaration.
  • Trona County Library will open as a COOLING CENTER from 10 am. to 6 p.m. today, July 9 to Thursday, July 18. Portable restrooms will also be available outside the Library, 82805 Mountain View Street.
  • Portable SHOWERS will be available starting at 10 a.m. today, July 9 at Trona High School, 83600 Trona Road.
  • Medical services will also be available at the high school starting Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • A town hall meeting is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday. Details to be released shortly.
  • Five (5) portable restrooms will be set up at the County Public Works Yard, 8031 Trona Road.
  • The Commodities Point of Distribution (CPOD) is at Trona High School, 83600 Trona Road, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Trona POST OFFICE is closed until further notice. All residents are directed to go to the Ridgecrest Post Office to conduct all postal needs including picking up and dropping off mail – 101 E. Coso Ave, 93555. Main phone for the Postal Service is 1-800-275-8777.
  • Hours of operation for the Trona-Argus Transfer Station (waste disposal site) will be Tuesday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Each resident is limited to 500 pounds per person, per day, up to 65 days a fiscal year.  Only typical household trash will be accepted.
  • 4,000-gallon water tankers with non-potable water are onsite to supply non-potable water for swamp coolers and toilet flushing. Tankers are located at Trona High School. Please bring your own containers if possible.
  • Searles Domestic Water Company continues to repair and test the impacted water system and has no current restoration time.
  • A Local Assistance Center (LAC) is planned to be operational by Wednesday morning. Final details to be released shortly.
  • Per Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), all natural gas has been restored to the Trona area. For residents needing gas restoration, call 1-800-PGE-5000 (1-800-743-5000). Residents are advised to mention that they are calling for earthquake restoration.
  • Shuttles are now available for Trona residents to the Kerr McGee Center in Ridgecrest where the American Red Cross has set up a shelter. A once-a-day shuttle will depart at 10 a.m. from Trona High School, 83600 Trona Rd. and return from the American Red Cross Shelter in Ridgecrest at noon. Water continues to be available at Trona High School.
  • Trona residents: To report damage or specific needs please contact the San Bernardino County Emergency Operations Center at 909-356-3998 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • The Community Crisis Response Team will continue to provide mental health services through Friday at Trona High School, 83600 Trona Road.
  • Big Bear, Morongo Basin, Lucerne Valley and Phelan-Pinon Hills CERT teams are onsite and actively assisting with CPOD operations.
  • VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active In Disaster) is actively assisting with donations management.
  • Portable restrooms and ADA compliant restrooms are available at the CPOD site.
  • Stray animals are being taken to Ridgecrest Animal Shelter located at 411 San Bernardino Blvd., Ridgecrest, 93555
  • Potable water for large and small animals is available via water trucks at the CPOD location (Trona High School)
  • Coordination has been initiated with the Bakersfield Veterans Group to identify veterans in the area to provide outreach resources.
  • Printed resources are being handed out throughout the community.
  • Boil water notice remains in effect through this weekend.
  • The affected areas include: Westend, South Trona, Argus, and Trona Village

  • Kerr McGee Community Center remains open at 100 West California Avenue, Ridgecrest
  • Mass care and shelter needs are being coordinated with State, Kern County, San Bernardino County, and the Red Cross.
  • Per National Weather Service, dry, warm, and breezy weather expected through Monday. The strongest winds, with afternoon gusts around 30 mph, can be expected Sunday
