Salinas Police Department Seizes Drugs, Live Grenade and Other Weapons Through Search Warrant
Salinas, CA – Our Violence Suppression Task Force (VSTF) has been investigating ongoing gang activity in the encampments in the W. Lake St and Bridge Alley area of Salinas.
Yesterday, a search warrant was served for the encampment which included 7 tents. During the service of the warrant, VSTF, Investigations, and patrol officers located a .45 caliber M&P handgun, a .12-gauge sawed-off shotgun, two .22 revolvers, several handgun magazines, 5 1/2 ounces of meth, 3.19 grams of heroin, 2 grams of powder fentanyl, 155 M30 fentanyl pills, and a fully functional hand grenade.
The Monterey County Bomb Squad was called out to assist and determined it was a live grenade through an x-ray machine. The Bomb Squad was able to render it safe and clear the rest of the area.
A 23 year-old male who is an active gang member was arrested and lodged at Monterey County Jail for several drug, weapon, and explosive possession charges.
