New Year's Eve Shooting on
Market Way & Soledad St
Salinas, CA – On Sunday, December 31, 2023, at approximately 5:55 pm, Salinas Police Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation followed by several 911 calls about a victim of a shooting in the area of Market Way and Soledad Street. On arrival, officers located two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers and Salinas Fire personnel attempted life-saving measures on the victims and both were transported to a local trauma center. Once at the hospital, Mark Armenta Renteria (36) succumbed to his injuries. The second victim, an adult male 37 years of age, is currently in serious but stable condition and is expected to survive.
The Salinas Police Department does not have any suspect information to release and is asking for the public's help.
