City Installs "Back-In" (Reverse Angle)
Parking Spaces Along Lincoln Ave.
Salinas, CA – The City is installing the first "back-in" (reverse angle) parking spaces in Salinas on Lincoln Ave. in front of City Hall. The reverse angle spaces will improve visibility of bicyclists using the new bike lane that will run from the Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) on W. Market St along Lincoln Ave. to W. Alisal St. These changes are designed to improve connectivity from the ITC to downtown, and improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians.
Here's how to use the reverse angle parking spaces:
- Pull slightly ahead of the space you are parking in
- Turn on your right turn signal
- Reverse into the space
- When leaving the space, proceed south on Lincoln towards Alisal when clear of bicyclists and oncoming traffic.
Safety reminders:
- All vehicles must reverse into the parking spaces and access the spaces by traveling southbound on Lincoln (from Gabilan towards Alisal).
- When parking, do not cross lanes when travelling northbound on Lincoln (from Alisal to Gabilan).
- When leaving the space, do not cross lanes to go northbound on Lincoln (towards Gabilan).
The addition of reverse angle parking on Lincoln is one of several traffic flow improvements in the area. The section of Church St. near the courthouse is now a one way street, which includes additional parking to improve the public access to the court and City Hall buildings. Additionally, Central Ave. at Salinas St. is now a two way street, allowing vehicles to cross Salinas St. to Main St.
