This month marks the 5th anniversary for Sacramento Superior Court’s Civil Self-Help Services program.
Civil Self-Help Services is one of only a few court-run programs in the state which assists people without lawyers to navigate the legal process related only to civil cases.
Use of the court’s Civil Self-Help Services has increased year over year. Since the program opened in 2019 it has logged more than 30,000 encounters with members of the public.
“With so much going on in the world, it’s easy to lose sight of successes, achievements, and milestones. I am very excited to recognize a milestone achievement at our court by celebrating the 5th anniversary of Civil Self-Help Services and the incredible team who provide services daily at our Hall of Justice,” said Kelly Sullivan, Chief Deputy Executive Officer at the Sacramento Superior Court. “I couldn’t be prouder of the program’s achievements!”

Six months into her Judicial Fellowship with the court, Trishia Sapigao reports she has learned a lot about court administration and administering justice to underrepresented groups.
"It has been an intellectually stimulating experience to apply academic seminar discussions on case-flow management and problem-solving justice to Sacramento Superior Court’s collaborative courts," she explained. "At the same time, analyzing court data and participating in the collaborative court space has expanded my definition of access to justice and further reaffirmed my goal to serve underrepresented groups."
Sapigao also hopes to delve into court administration’s part in broadening said access.
