Dear Friends and Second District Residents,
I hope you all are enjoying the summer season! This month’s newsletter focuses on essential information for all district constituents, with updates pertaining to the county as a whole and specifically to the Second District. You'll also find event flyers for various community activities throughout the month. These updates and events are excellent opportunities for us to come together, reflect on our shared values, and celebrate the diverse individuals who make our district a wonderful place to live.
August is Child Support Awareness Month, a time dedicated to emphasizing the crucial role of child support in our society. It's about ensuring that our children, the future of our community, receive the financial support they need to thrive. This support is about providing our children with the essential resources they need for a bright future, education, healthcare, and a stable living environment. As a community, it is our duty to support the enforcement of child support laws, because every child deserves a chance to succeed. For more information about how Riverside County can assist you with child support needs, please visit the Department of Child Support Services at https://rivcodcss.com/.
We celebrate National Health Center Week from August 4-10. This week recognizes the vital role that health centers play in providing accessible and affordable healthcare to millions of Americans, including many in our own district. Health centers are essential in delivering primary care services, especially to underserved communities. They offer a wide range of services, including preventative care, dental services, mental health support, and more. Let us take this week to acknowledge and support the hardworking healthcare professionals who dedicate their lives to keeping our communities healthy. For more information on community health centers available throughout Riverside County, visit https://www.ruhealth.org/community-health-centers.
On August 21, we have the honor of celebrating National Senior Citizen Day. This is a day set aside to recognize the achievements and contributions of our senior citizens, who have given so much to our society. In celebration, our office will be hosting the 2nd Annual Second District Senior Legacy Awards on August 29. This event celebrates the remarkable legacies of our senior citizens within the Second District. We invite you to join us at the Skyview Event Center as we honor the elders who have shaped our community. We look forward to seeing you there! Get your tickets today at https://rivcodistrict2.org/events/2nd-annual-second-district-senior-legacy-awards.
Finally, August 26 marks the historic adoption of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920, a landmark victory that granted women the right to vote. This significant milestone in our nation's history symbolizes countless women and allies' relentless efforts and sacrifices in the fight for suffrage.
With great sadness, I also announce the passing of one of our most involved Temescal Valley community members, Jannlee Watson. Jannlee was a dedicated journalist and community leader who significantly contributed to our district. She served as president of her Homeowner’s Association, regularly attended Municipal Advisory Council meetings, and founded the "We Are Temescal Valley Citizens Group" to enhance community identity. She shared vital information with the community through a website, newsletter, and social media page with over 13,000 followers. Jannlee’s legacy of service and contributions to Temescal Valley have left an indelible mark, and she will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time.
As we move through August, I encourage you all to take part in these observances and join in our community events. Together, we can positively impact and continue building a stronger, more supportive Riverside County.
Warmly,
You’re Invited! Supervisor Spiegel invites you to attend the Lakeland Village Town Hall meeting on August 28, 2024, hosted by the County of Riverside at the Lakeland Village Community Center (16275 Grand Ave., Main Building, Lake Elsinore, CA 92530) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend, hear updates from various county departments, and ask questions about topics prevalent in the community. Phase 1 of this ambitious project centers on the addition of a pickleball court, a basketball court, and various other enhancements. These improvements are poised to bring substantial benefits to the residents of the Woodcrest community.
Board of Supervisors Approves Funding for Ten New Mobile Wellness and Spay/Neuter Clinics in Second District
In a significant move to enhance community health and animal welfare, the Board of Supervisors has approved funding for ten additional mobile wellness and spay/neuter clinics within our district. These clinics will serve the communities of Home Gardens, El Cerrito, Temescal Valley, Lakeland Village, and Woodcrest/Lake Matthews.
These completely free mobile clinics are expected to bring essential services directly to residents, ensuring greater accessibility to wellness and veterinary care. This initiative aims to improve overall public health and address the pressing need for spay/neuter services to manage and reduce the population of stray animals.
With this approval, the Board continues demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of the residents and their pets in these communities. The deployment of these clinics is anticipated to profoundly and positively impact the quality of life across the district.
Stay tuned to learn more about the dates and locations for these upcoming FREE mobile clinics.
