Supervisor Karen Spiegel

Dear Friends and Second District Residents,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! As we enter the freshness of a new year, I am filled with renewed hope and commitment to our beloved community. January, a month brimming with significant dates and observances, offers us a unique opportunity to reflect, celebrate, and educate ourselves about crucial issues affecting our society.

Firstly, January is not just the beginning of a new calendar year; it symbolizes new beginnings, fresh starts, and a time for setting intentions for the year ahead. It's a month that unites us in the spirit of optimism and renewal. As your Second District Supervisor, I am enthusiastic about the projects and initiatives we plan to embark upon this year, and I look forward to your continued support and engagement.

We are so proud to have had two entries from the Second District in the Tournament of Roses Parade this year: The Norco Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Team, making their 10th appearance, and The B.O.S.S. (The Bands of Santiago Sharks/Santiago High School Marching Band) of Corona making their third appearance. Congratulations on your performance in the parade!

Midway through the month, on January 16th, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This day is much more than a federal holiday; it's a day for us to remember and celebrate the life and achievements of one of history's most influential civil rights leaders. Dr. King's message of equality, justice, and non-violence is as relevant today as it was during his lifetime. His vision for a more inclusive society is a guiding light for our district and nation, reminding us to continue working towards a community where every voice is heard and respected.

January also marks Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about this global issue that tragically affects millions of people. Human trafficking, in its many forms, is a violation of human rights and dignity. This month, we reaffirm our commitment to combatting this heinous crime and supporting survivors. Through education, advocacy, and collaboration with law enforcement and community organizations, we can make strides in protecting the vulnerable and bringing perpetrators to justice.

As we navigate through this month, I encourage each of you to take a moment to reflect on these significant days. Let's use this time to educate ourselves, to recognize the ongoing struggles for justice and equality, and recommit to building a community that uplifts and supports all its members.

Wishing you all a peaceful, prosperous, and fulfilling New Year.

Warmly,

Spiegel Signature

Riverside County wants to hear from you!

Provide important input to your local government - participate in our new survey tool

Do you have one minute a month to help make Riverside County better?

Join your friends and neighbors and make your voice heard on important local issues.

The County of Riverside is working with FlashVote to gather valuable input from residents to inform decisions on programs, policies and budget.

“I firmly believe that our strength lies in the collective voices of our residents," says Supervisor Spiegel. "This is an opportunity, not just to speak, but to actively shape the future of our community. Your one minute can drive significant change. I urge every Second District resident to take this moment and be a part of Riverside County's future.”

The sign-up process takes less than one minute and the individual information collected by FlashVote is never shared with the County, nor anyone else. When residents sign up, they can determine if they want to receive the surveys by email, text or phone.

Residents will receive a notification whenever there is a new survey, and they will have 48 hours to participate before voting closes. Once a survey is closed, everyone who participated will automatically receive a summary of the overall results and be able to see how their responses compare to the group. Results are anonymous.

The county encourages residents to sign up now or call (775) 235-2240 to participate by phone or text only.

Participate in helping make Riverside County better. Your opinions on how local government works for you matter.

Board of Supervisors Appoints New Registrar of Voters - Art Tinoco

The Board of Supervisors has officially appointed Art Tinoco as the Registrar of Voters (ROV). This appointment solidifies Tinoco's leadership following a two-month interim period. As the ROV, Tinoco heads a crucial team responsible for ensuring fair and transparent elections in the county, overseeing voter registration, ballot integrity, and the administration of federal, state, and local electoral processes. The ROV office, typically staffed by around 44 full-time employees, expands significantly during countywide elections with over 900 temporary staff to manage more significant electoral undertakings. Currently, Riverside County boasts approximately 1.3 million registered voters. Residents are reminded to register or re-register, especially if they have recently moved to the county, at voteinfo.net to participate in upcoming elections. City of Canyon Lake Secures City Fire Station

In a landmark move for community safety, the City of Canyon Lake has officially acquired its fire station, Station 1, after concluding negotiations with the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (Canyon Lake POA). This significant step, achieved after nearly a year of discussions, was finalized on December 7, 2023, with the escrow closure recorded the following day. The acquisition, totaling $1.39 million, includes the 2,760-square-foot fire station on a 39,540-square-foot parcel at 28730 Vacation Drive. This deal also entails a Shared Use Maintenance Agreement (SUMA) and the subdivision of 'parcel 12,' allowing the Canyon Lake POA to retain parts of the property for resident use. To learn more about the city's station, please visit https://www.canyonlakeca.gov/index.asp?SEC=F224C39D-C23E-4C1E-A390-AE089D504F43&DE=C423A74B-DAD2-486F-AECA-9AC57E501111.

Traffic Delineators Installed - El Cerrito

Responding to the concerns of the local El Cerrito residents, traffic delineators were installed on November 14th, 2023, on southbound Ontario Ave at El Cerrito Road. These delineators play a crucial role in enhancing road safety and efficiency by clearly separating the lanes of traffic turning right towards the 15 freeway from those continuing southbound. Delineators are road markers or barriers to guide and control traffic flow. They are essential as they help prevent accidents by demarcating different traffic paths, reducing the likelihood of vehicles mistakenly drifting into incorrect lanes. This installation is especially beneficial for the El Cerrito area as it improves navigation clarity and reduces traffic congestion, ensuring a smoother and safer driving experience for the community.
