Dear Friends and Second District Residents,

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are well-rested and energized to take on the year ahead! I want to welcome our new residents from the cities of Canyon Lake and Lake Elsinore, as well as the unincorporated communities of Gavilan Hills, Lake Mathews, Lakeland Village, Temescal Valley, Warm Springs, and Woodcrest.

We are all saddened by the passing of Riverside County Deputy Isaiah Cordero, who was fatally shot at a traffic stop, Thursday, December 29, 2022. Deputy Cordero passed as a hero serving our community. I continue to support our Sheriff Chad Bianco and the Sheriff's Department, especially during these trying times. From this tragedy, I am so touched by the outpouring of love and support from our communities, our county constituents, and people all over the world. We are Riverside County STRONG!

As we head into the new year, new laws will take effect in California. Almost a thousand (997) new laws were passed by the State Legislature and signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, of which many add to or revise existing state law. These will start impacting our lives across various topics, including labor and employment laws, housing, health, traffic and automobiles, the climate and environment, and much more.

The District Two team looks forward to working with you, and we hope to see you all in the community soon. Let's make 2023 a great year!

Sincerely,

Karen Spiegel's Signature

Nonprofit Spotlight: The Unforgettables Foundation

District Two is fortunate to have hundreds of nonprofits that do some incredible work. Many of these nonprofits have volunteer board of directors and positions where you can volunteer. Volunteerism is a great way to use your talents and share your expertise with others that need assistance.

The Unforgettables Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by Timothy Evans in 1999. During a decade of clinical ministry to children and their families, Evans assisted families with the many crises surrounding the death of a child, not the least of which were the crushing financial burdens experienced by families with limited resources.

Assisted by Inland Empire educators, medical professionals, social workers, CPAs, attorneys, bankers, morticians, and others, Evans created The Unforgettables Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to assist low-income families in providing dignified, appropriate burials for their children who have passed away.

The District Two team applauds this foundation and its incredible work in helping these families through such a difficult time.

For more information, visit The Unforgettables Foundation website at www.unforgettables.org.

The District Two team will continue to feature one nonprofit spotlight each month.
