Dear Third District Resident,
I would like to begin this letter with welcoming our two new staff members recently brought on to the Third District team. In February, we had the privilege of welcoming Legislative Assistant, Alex Teahen, and Board Assistant Jandi Aguilar.
Alex is responsible for our human health division within the Third District office, as well as she performs as the community liaison for the city of Temecula and the communities of De Luz and La Cresta. Jandi is responsible for our office’s internal services, animal services and utilities divisions where she also acts as a community liaison for Murrieta, Wildomar, East Hemet and Valle Vista regions respectively. We are excited to have two new team members and are confident they will perform exceptionally, as we are eager to embrace their future accomplishments.
Furthermore, as March is acknowledged as Women’s History Month, we would like to highlight the 2023 Riverside County Woman of the Year Inspiration Awards. As each Supervisorial District is responsible for nominating one woman per district, we have taken the honor of electing Shawn Sorensen as the Third District Woman of the Year Nominee. Riverside County created the Women’s Inspiration Awards to celebrate the social and economic accomplishments of women throughout our county. Specifically, this year we are aiming to honor women who have put their community first through innovation, efforts to bring social and economic change, and overall diligence to create a better community.
We are honored and proud to acknowledge that Shawn has all these admirable qualities and more as she has dedicated and invested over the past ten years in community engagement and social impact. Congratulations to Shawn Sorensen as the Third District Woman of the Year!
Sincere regards,

National Association of Counties
Last month, I joined my fellow officers from the California State Association of Counties as we met with several national legislators on Capitol Hill and Federal agency officials to address several county priorities including homelessness, housing and safety net services that only counties provide. It is an honor to be in this role and ensure that Riverside County’s voice is heard across the nation.
Community Highlight: Blue Zones Initiative
In February, the Third District office joined Riverside University Health System’s Public Health team and the Blue Zones Initiative for a community assessment conducted at the French Valley Library. The goal of the Blue Zone project is to make it accessible for French Valley residents to make healthy choices through community improvements such as street and park designs, public policy and social improvement. The meeting was incredibly insightful and assessment results will be available for review in the Spring of which my office and I look forward to.

Community Highlight: Third District Woman of the Year
As previously mentioned, Shawn Sorensen has been elected as the 2023 Riverside County Woman of the Year Third District Nominee. We are privileged to honor her as our nominee as her vast investment in economic and social impact is intensely impressive. Shawn has served on a multitude of boards where she has advocated to fundraise and support a plethora of charities such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Animal Friends of the Valley, Michelle’s Place and many more. She is truly innovative in the realm of cultivating economic and social impact as she begins with investing in the community through starting with donating a portion of the proceeds of each transaction of her company to support local charities.
Once again, congratulations to the Third District’s Woman of the Year, Shawn Sorensen!
