Dear Friends and Second District Residents,

The election is right around the corner! Are you registered to vote? Whatever your thoughts on the election or the candidates may be, it is essential to remember the best voter is an educated voter—and it's important to remember there is a lot at stake. As a friend once said, “voting is a civil right, hard won for all our citizens and the foundation of our democracy.” Millions of people around the world have no say in who governs them. Let’s embrace the privilege and responsibility we have been given. Every vote really does count, so let’s be grateful that we have the opportunity to be heard.

Early voting dates: Oct. 10—Nov. 7, 2022
Any registered California voter can vote early in person.

General Election: Nov. 8, 2022
Polling hours on Election Day: 7 am—8 pm.

As November arrives, make sure you’re celebrating gratitude all month long, not just on the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s also the time to show gratitude. November has been celebrated as National Gratitude Month since 2015.

To our veterans: I thank you for your bravery, sacrifice, and strength. I want to thank you very much for your service! Throughout November, we honor our Veterans and the sacrifices they and their families have endured for this country. Be sure to take a moment to write a thank you note, share a story, or express your gratitude for their service.

As mentioned, Thanksgiving is the perfect time to get together with friends and family, the people you love. It is a time to show gratitude for the many things we often take for granted – our family, friends, food, homes, and our health.

The spirit of giving is in the air, and at the end of this month, we recognize all we have by giving back. GivingTuesday is a global day of generosity that will take place on Nov. 29, 2022. GivingTuesday is a day that encourages people to give back in whatever ways they can. Many nonprofit organizations do fundraising campaigns on GivingTuesday. Below are just a few independent nonprofit organizations of the MANY that could use your support:

Please take this opportunity to unite to thank, help, give, show kindness, and share what you have with those in need. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Karen Spiegel's Signature
