Easter Fun!

Hop on down to this year’s Easter egg hunts! There are many fun activities planned throughout Third District for some outdoor Easter fun for you and your family.

The City of Temecula will host Easter egg hunts on Saturday, April 16, at 9:30 am at Temeku Hills Park, Patricia H. Birdsall Sports Park, and Harveston Community Park. Visit, TemeculaCA.gov/Events for more information.

Drive up to the beautiful Idyllwild Regional Park on Saturday, April 16, for photos with the Easter bunny at 10 am, an egg hunt at 10:30 am, and cookies and prizes for kids of all ages. Click here for the full event flyer.

Diamond Valley Lake

The Diamond Valley Lake and surrounding hills have become known for the spectacular wildflower blooms each spring and are popular among equestrians on the North Hills Trail and hikers, bicyclists, and e-bikers on the Lake View Trail. Electric bike rentals are now available and make the 22.7 miles around the lake an enjoyable ride, even for those who are not avid cyclists. Bra Drive by RUHS Foundation & Molina Healthcare

When a survivor of sexual assault or domestic violence undergoes a forensic exam at RUHS, it is common for all her clothing to be collected as evidence of the crime committed against her. She is then provided with new clothing to wear home, much of which has been made available due to generous donations. Consistently, our forensic examiners and victim advocates report that the most challenging article of clothing to keep in stock are bras.

To support these courageous survivors, the RUHS Foundation and Molina Healthcare are hosting a bra drive. The Foundation will be collecting new and unworn bras of all sizes at the Temecula and Murrieta Safe Family Justice Centers until April 25th. Community Highlight: Pechanga Investing in Future Leaders

I am so proud to be a part of a community that recognizes the importance of education. Despite being caught in the midst of a life-changing pandemic, our schools were able to overcome difficult challenges and continue to educate our youth. Throughout the years, the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians has generously contributed to the goal of providing education to our youth by donating over six million dollars to local schools. The pandemic impacted our schools with a great amount of uncertainty, but the transition to where we are today was made much smoother thanks to community partners like Pechanga.

American Rescue Plan Act Nonprofit Grant

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors allocated $1 million to support pandemic relief efforts undertaken by nonprofit organizations. Grants may be awarded to eligible 501 (c)(3) nonprofits providing direct relief services and/or serving populations disproportionately impacted by the pandemic within the Third District. Supervisor Seeks Applicants for Vacancies on Third District Boards, Committees and Commissions

Are you a dedicated individual interested in serving your community? Riverside County has numerous boards, committees and commissions comprised of appointed members of the public. These appointees serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

Applications are currently being accepted for low-income sector representatives on the Community Action Commission (CAC). Low-income commissioners are low-income individuals or representatives of the low-income community. Commissioners assure participation of low-income individuals in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of Community Action Partnership (CAP) programs to alleviate poverty and promote self-sufficiency. Scams Target Senior Population, Part 14

As the population of older adults in Riverside County increases, we see more and more scammers trying to trick the elderly community. This article is part fourteen of a series on fraud that targets older adults. This week’s article focuses on work-at-home scams.

Identifying work-at-home scams can be tricky, especially as they often appear alongside legitimate opportunities on popular job-search websites. If you’re a retiree looking to supplement your social security, it can be awfully tempting to follow those leads. From 2015 through 2019, the Federal Trade Commission received more than 58,000 consumer complaints. Below are a few tips to follow regarding potential scam opportunities to work from home.

Don’t assume an offer is genuine because you saw it in a trusted newspaper or on a legitimate job website. It could still be a scam. If you spot a suspicious listing, report it to the publication or site.

Be cautious with listings that claim no skills or experience are required.
Be cautious if asked to pay upfront for training, certifications, materials, etc. The median loss for victims is roughly $1,200.
Be cautious if the job offers high pay for little or no work.
Don’t sign a contract or make a payment without doing homework about the company making the offer.
If you believe you’ve responded to a scam, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission or State Attorney General.

REMINDER: Reality Rally Amazing Race

Join us in the fight against cancer by participating in the 10th Annual Reality Rally Amazing Race Game on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Teams will take part in fun challenges all over Old Town Temecula, completing tasks to advance in the game. Reality stars from shows like the Amazing Race, Survivor, Naked and Afraid, and Big Brother are signing up now to meet you and help raise funds.

The Reality Rally event supports Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center. Michelle’s Place offers support and resources to individuals fighting cancer. REMINDER: Newly Enacted Service-Connected Benefits

You may be eligible for newly enacted service-connected benefits. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has begun processing service-connected disability claims for six new presumptive conditions related to environmental exposures during military service. Added to the list of medical conditions presumptively associated with exposure to Agent Orange are bladder cancer, hypothyroidism, parkinsonism, asthma, rhinitis, and sinusitis. For more information about VA benefits and eligibility or how to file a claim, veterans and survivors can visit www.va.gov or call 1-800-827-1000.

Riverside County COVID-19 Update

As of Wednesday, April 13, 2022, Riverside County’s COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 residents is 3.1, and our positivity rate is 1.7 percent. In Riverside County, 6.6 percent are partially vaccinated (154,060 residents), 61.2 percent are fully vaccinated (1,426,621 residents), and 31.9 percent (670,292 residents) have received their additional dose/booster vaccine.

Help keep our community safe by getting your COVID-19 vaccine and booster(s). It is recommended that individuals who have received their initial booster at least four months prior and are 50 years and older, or 12 and older and moderately or severely immunocompromised, receive a booster.

To make an appointment, call 211 or visit www.ruhealth.org/covid-19-vaccine. You can also schedule an appointment at a community health center by calling 800-945-6171. If you are unable to leave your home for medical reasons, you can be vaccinated from the comfort of your home by calling 833-422-4255 or visiting myturn.ca.gov. If you recently tested positive for COVID-19 and are experiencing symptoms, you may be eligible for monoclonal antibody treatment.
