We will continue to provide valuable resources and important information pertaining to our community. Recognizing the Contributions of Women

Throughout March, we celebrate Women’s History Month by recognizing the important contributions women of all cultures have made throughout history. The theme of this year’s Women’s History Month is Providing Healing, Promoting Hope, a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during the pandemic.

At yesterday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board recognized several devoted and inspiring women in honor of International Women’s Day (March 8). Supervisor Washington honored two individuals from the Third District: Randi Johl, legislative director and city clerk for the City of Temecula, and Gillian Larson, founder of Reality Rally, for their compassion and dedication to helping others.

Let’s Make Every Day Read Across America Day

Last Wednesday, we celebrated Read Across America Day. Reading helps develop and nourish our imaginations, inspiring us to dream and offering a great escape. Visit www.rivlib.net or any of Riverside County’s 36 libraries to get your own library card and a captivating book.

Throughout the month, the French Valley Library is offering many fun activities for both youth and adults. On March 11, youth ages 3-5 can enjoy storytime and singing with Miss Dani. On March 16, there will be an adult and teen crochet class where you will learn basic crochet terms and techniques using crochet books. Reality Rally Amazing Race

Join us in the fight against cancer by participating in the 10th Annual Reality Rally Amazing Race Game on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Teams will take part in fun challenges all over Old Town Temecula, completing tasks to advance in the game. Reality stars from shows like the Amazing Race, Survivor, Naked and Afraid, and Big Brother are signing up now to meet you and help raise funds.

The Reality Rally event supports Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center. Michelle’s Place offers support and resources to individuals fighting cancer. Newly Enacted Service-Connected Benefits

You may be eligible for newly enacted service-connected benefits. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has begun processing service-connected disability claims for six new presumptive conditions related to environmental exposures during military service. Added to the list of medical conditions presumptively associated with exposure to Agent Orange are bladder cancer, hypothyroidism, parkinsonism, asthma, rhinitis, and sinusitis. Rancho California Roundabout Resurfacing Project

Construction will take place at Rancho California and Anza Road in Temecula from March 16, 2022, until March 29, 2022. Supervisor Seeks Applicants for Vacancies on Third District Boards, Committees and Commissions

Are you a dedicated individual interested in serving your community? Riverside County has numerous boards, committees and commissions comprised of appointed members of the public. These appointees serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

Applications are currently being accepted for low-income sector representatives on the Community Action Commission (CAC). Low-income commissioners are low-income individuals or representatives of the low-income community. Commissioners assure participation of low-income individuals in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of Community Action Partnership (CAP) programs to alleviate poverty and promote self-sufficiency. Scams Target Senior Population, Part 13

As the population of older adults in Riverside County increases, we see more and more scammers trying to trick the elderly community. This article is part thirteen of a series on fraud that targets older adults. This week’s article focuses on Real Estate Fraud.

Not all real estate scams are caused by outright fraud. There are unethical business practices and bad advice that can do just as much harm. Your equity may be your biggest asset, so do not put something that precious into the hands of a stranger. Below are a few tips to follow if you suspect you are involved in real estate fraud.

Do not enter into any real estate agreement because of a phone call. Hang up and do your own research. If you don’t quite understand what you are doing, do not take a “leap of faith” and sign something.
If you have questions about your home equity loan, talk to someone local. Your hometown banker, real estate professional, or attorney. You will have the benefit of meeting face to face.
A quitclaim deed is often used in financial elder abuse, so don’t quitclaim your property to family or others unless you receive your own legal advice. A quitclaim is not reversible just because you change your mind. Never agree to quitclaim your property in exchange for lifetime care.

REMINDER: National Health Survey is Coming to Riverside County

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is coming once again to Riverside County. This critical survey collects health information to determine the nutritional status of the U.S. population. Households will be sent a letter inviting them to complete a brief online questionnaire to verify who in their home is eligible to participate. Those eligible will be contacted by NHANES to schedule a telephone health interview, followed by a health examination that takes place in the NHANES mobile examination center. We strongly urge everyone who is selected for the survey to participate.

Riverside County COVID-19 Update

As of Wednesday, March. 9, 2022, Riverside County’s COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 residents is 9.5, and our positivity rate is 4 percent. The percentage of Riverside County residents who are partially vaccinated is 6.9 (160,678 residents), 61.1 percent are fully vaccinated (1,423,001 residents) and 30.6 percent (643,779 residents) have received their additional/ booster dose.

Help keep our community safe by getting your COVID-19 vaccine and booster. To make an appointment, call 211 or visit www.ruhealth.org/covid-19-vaccine. You can also schedule an appointment at a Community Health Center by calling 800-945-6171. If you are unable to leave your home for medical reasons, you can be vaccinated from the comfort of your home by calling 833-422-4255 or visiting myturn.ca.gov.

If you recently tested positive for COVID-19 and are experiencing symptoms, you may be eligible for monoclonal antibody treatment. For more information, please call the RUHS Medical Center at 951-486-6520.
