Dear Third District Resident,

Last month, the Board of Supervisors adopted new supervisorial district boundaries. Although the new districts have been adopted, it is important to note that the new boundaries will not take effect until the next election for each district. The new boundaries for districts 2, 4, and 5 will take effect in January 2023, and the boundaries for districts 1 and 3 will take effect in January 2025.

For the remainder of this year, your county supervisor remains unchanged, and if you are a current Third District resident, please contact my office if you need any assistance.

Get Paid to be an IHSS Caregiver

Do you have the caring and compassionate heart of a caregiver? In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority is actively recruiting caregivers to provide assistance to elderly and disabled individuals who are approved for IHSS services.

Caregiver responsibilities are based upon the needs of the IHSS recipient they work for and can vary from domestic tasks such as laundry and meal prep to more personal tasks such as feeding and bathing.

California Senior Legislator Elections

If you are passionate about issues facing older Californians and their families, you may want to consider running for the California Senior Legislature (CSL).

CSL is a volunteer body whose primary mission is to gather ideas for legislation at the state and federal levels, craft formal proposals, present them to members of the Legislature or Congress, and advocate for laws implementing the ideas. For more information, visit www.4csl.org.

Court Now Accepting Civil Grand Jury Applications

The Riverside County Superior Court is accepting applications from qualified citizens interested in serving as civil grand jurors from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023.

Duties include, but are not limited to, investigating the operations of county government, researching matters of civic concern, and inquiring into public offenses. A per diem plus mileage is paid to defray expenses.

Supervisor Seeks Applicants for Vacancies on Third District Boards, Committees and Commissions

Are you a dedicated individual interested in serving your community? Riverside County has numerous boards, committees and commissions comprised of appointed members of the public. These appointees serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

Applications are currently being accepted for low-income sector representatives on the Community Action Commission (CAC). Low-income commissioners are low-income individuals or representatives of the low-income community. Commissioners assure participation of low-income individuals in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of Community Action Partnership (CAP) programs to alleviate poverty and promote self-sufficiency. Scams Target Senior Population, Part 11

As the population of older adults in Riverside County increases, we see more and more scammers trying to trick the elderly community. This article is part eleven of a series on fraud that targets older adults. This week’s article focuses on Online Dating Scams.

More people nowadays are using dating websites and mobile apps. Although online dating may be a great way to socialize and build new relationships, it is also rampant with scammers looking to take advantage of unsuspecting people. Before using a dating website, be aware of the following tips to stay safe online.

Avoid people who quickly request to leave the dating website and speak with you through email or instant messaging.
Never disclose any personal information including your social security number, bank account number, address, or the names of your family members.
Be cautious when speaking with someone online who states they are stranded in another country or need financial help.
If you do meet in person with someone you met online, meet in a public place. Also, tell someone you trust where you are going and with who.

We are currently experiencing the worst blood shortage in over a decade, according to the American Red Cross. The dangerously low blood supply levels have forced some hospitals to defer patients from major surgery, including organ transplants.

Place Your Order for Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests

Residential households can order one set of four free at-home COVID-19 tests. To promote broad access, the initial program will be limited to four rapid tests per residential address.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that anyone who may have been exposed to someone with COVID should test five days after their exposure. Testing is the only way to find out if you have the virus so you can avoid being out and about and potentially spreading the disease.

Riverside County COVID-19 Update

As of Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, Riverside County’s COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 residents is 174.6, and our positivity rate is 29 percent.

Help keep our community and your family safe by getting your COVID-19 vaccine. The County of Riverside is vaccinating residents ages five and up. Vaccination clinics provide first and second doses, additional doses for those with immunosuppressed health and Pfizer booster doses for all individuals 12 and older who completed a Moderna or Pfizer primary series at least five months ago, or a Johnson & Johnson primary series at least two months ago. At this time, only the Pfizer booster dose is authorized and recommended for adolescents ages 12-17. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster doses are available to those 18 and older who have also completed their primary COVID-19 vaccination.

To make an appointment to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, call 2-1-1 or visit www.ruhealth.org/covid-19-vaccine. You can also schedule an appointment at a Community Health Center by calling 800-945-6171. If you are unable to leave your home for medical reasons, you can be vaccinated from the comfort of your home by calling 833-422-4255 or visiting myturn.ca.gov.

If you recently tested positive for COVID-19 and are experiencing symptoms, you may be eligible for monoclonal antibody treatment. For more information, please call the RUHS Medical Center at 951-486-6520.

As of Feb. 2, 2022, 7.2 percent of Riverside County residents are partially vaccinated (168,392 residents), 60.1 percent are fully vaccinated (1,399,851 residents), and 27.7 percent (581,573 residents) have received their additional dose/booster vaccine.
