CEO Joshua Park of California Baptist University had an innovative idea, bred from his caring concern over his father's eye health - smart eye pressure monitoring. The most common cause for irreversible blindness is glaucoma, something that can be controlled through proper monitoring. The problem that Park and his team at Globe Biomedical have identified is that typically many people only get a snapshot of their eye health through infrequent optometrist visits. To solve this, Globe Biomedical has developed what they have coined as "Blink" technology, an ocular sensing and reporting platform that is monitored through a microscopic camera conveniently concealed in their stylish eyewear designs.
After taking shape in 2017, Globe Biomedical produced a torrent of momentum. The startup won a $1 million National Science Foundation (NSF) small business research grant and was accepted into the ExCITE Riverside Incubator program.Â
Today, the proud ExCITE graduates have 13 employees and a 1,800-square-foot office in Canyon Crest Towne Centre. The company is currently in the middle of a seed round and crowd equity raise to provide an opportunity for the public to become partial owners.Â
There’s power in our community. Bystanders are ready to help save lives from sudden cardiac arrest, but how do they know when to take action? Is it sufficient to simply rely on the stars aligning and being in the right place at the right time? While that may be convenient, it’s a rare occurrence.
The answer is PulsePoint Respond - and the City of Riverside Fire Department is excited to launch this life-saving technology, readily available to all. People with CPR training will be able to help persons in their vicinity who are suffering cardiac distress – and possibly save lives -- by signing up with this new mobile app.
The lifesaving PulsePoint app notifies off-duty medical professionals and everyday community members trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) of nearby cardiac arrest events – in hopes of facilitating immediate CPR during the crucial moments before emergency services arrive. Since the app also shows the closest AED, the responder also can defibrillate the person, giving the victim an even greater chance at survival.
