Workgroup on August 27, 2026

The California Air Resources Board (CARB or Board) invites you to take part in a virtual workgroup. At the workgroup, we will update you on the new incentive Project, MyFirstEV. We will provide you with project details, eligibility requirements, status, and next steps. We will also be available to answer your questions.
We will hold the workgroup online via Zoom at the following date and time:

We invite all interested parties to take part in the online workgroup. You can register for the meeting at the link below. After you register, you will receive an email with information about how to join the meeting. You will be able to join the meeting by digital/computer device or telephone.

We aim to make the workgroup materials available on the workgroup webpage about one week before the meeting. We will record the workgroup and post it to the workgroup webpage within about two weeks after the meeting.
Background
On June 15, 2026, the California State Legislature approved the Fiscal Year 2026-27 State Budget. In it, they approved a one-time funding amount of $135.5 million to CARB for a new incentive project. The project is MyFirstEV. CARB has partnered with participating car manufacturers to offer California residents a point-of-sale (POS) incentive through MyFirstEV. The incentive is for first-time buyers of zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) to buy or lease a new or used ZEV.
California residents face affordability, air quality, climate, and public health issues. Additionally, auto manufacturers face uncertainty due to recent federal government actions. California aims to strengthen the ZEV market. This will help to support California’s air quality and climate goals. And it will help to support American auto innovation through MyFirstEV. We designed MyFirstEV to reduce the upfront cost of ZEVs for Californians. This will make ZEVs more affordable for first-time buyers and lessees.
We have partnered with various participating automakers via grant agreements. We are providing a “buy-down” on the upfront sticker price (i.e., Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price – MSRP) of ZEVs. These participating automakers will match California’s contribution. This doubles the incentive available to first-time ZEV buyers/lessees. Manufacturers will offer the incentives at the POS for firsttime buyers or lessees of new or used ZEVs. Together, we are providing a combined $3,500 for new vehicles ($1,750 each from the State and participating manufacturers). The combined incentive for used vehicles is $1,750 ($875 each). The project has an MSRP cap of $50,000 for new light-duty passenger vehicles. For used vehicles, there is a sales price cap of $25,000. This helps to keep incentives focused on affordable vehicle options.
Important Note on Language Interpretation
We are updating our process to provide language interpretation services (e.g., Spanish, American Sign Language, etc.). This change is due to budget constraints. It applies to all our public meetings. We are following the Dymally-Alatorre Bilingual Services Act (Government Code 7290-7299.8). We will provide language interpretation services when at least 5% of the anticipated attendees request it. If you register to take part in the meeting, you can request interpretation services on behalf of others. You can do this before the meeting through the registration link or by contacting Chelsey Batchelder (see below) to ensure other people's needs are being met. You, or someone on your behalf, must ask us for language interpretation services at least 10 calendar days before the meeting date.
