Pursuant to section 95488.5(d) of the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Regulation, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Executive Officer has calculated the 2026 annual update to the carbon intensities (CIs) of the following two Lookup Table Pathways:
- California Average Grid Electricity Used as a Transportation Fuel in California
- Electricity Supplied under the Smart Charging or Smart Electrolysis Provision
These two pathways are posted for a 45-day public comment period. The updated pathway CI values will be available for quarterly fuel reporting in 2026, beginning with Q1.
The public comment period will end on May 1, 2026.
Background
The Low Carbon Fuel Standard, a regulation to reduce the carbon intensity of fuels sold in California 20 percent by 2030, is one of the measures adopted by the California Air Resources Board, pursuant to Health and Safety Code Sections 38500-38599 (AB 32) to reduce greenhouse gases in California. It is designed to help clean the air, protect the environment, and drive the development of clean, low-carbon fuels.
